There was some great news flooding the internet this week, between Spider-Man rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the announcement of Superman’s new power. But, there was plenty of news we may have missed too, and here is some of the best. So grab your Valentine’s Day chocolates (or post-Valentine’s Day half-off chocolates) and catch up on what you may have missed.

∴ A World of Warcraft charity campaign raised over 1.9 million dollars for the Red Cross. Blizzard donated 100% of its profits made from the sales of in-game pet Argi. The money donated will be used to treat the Ebola crisis in Africa.

∴ Digital library, and book reader subscription service Scribd announced a new service this week: comic books. Scribd added more than 10,000 Marvel, Archie and more comic books to their collection.

 

 

∴ It was a true Valentine’s Day for nerds as scores of new toys were unveiled at the New York Toy Fair. Over 1,100 toy manufacturers congregated at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, and some of the most talked about were some of the new toys from ever-popular Funko. Funko revealed their Pop! Figures for Harry Potter, an extended Game of Thrones, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and many more.

 

 

∴ Apple has been featuring the Pay Once and Play App all week in hopes it will take freemium games to the next level. Like the name suggests, it is a freemium game but without in-game transactions, you simply pay for it once and enjoy all aspects of the game. The app hosts a bunch of titles within in, such as the iOS version of Bastion which will set you back $5.

∴ In the console wars boxing ring, Playstation 4 emerged from the corner as a victor outselling Xbox One in January. Previously, Xbox One had higher sales for the prior 10 months until Sony took over the lead.

∴ Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak trailer was released online this week. The gothic horror flick starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Charlie Hunnam and Jim Beaver will be released later this year. Check out the trailer.
