Here at the GCE, we’ve been prepping for our 24-hour gaming marathon to benefit the Free the Children charity. Our staff and friends will be live-broadcasting their marathon through multiple channels, and have set up a page for how you can get involved in the fun and fundraising. Visit here to get all the details and join the Facebook group event as well.

As we come to summer’s mid-point and stores begin stocking the shelves with back to school supplies, I still want to cling on to the amazing news that have happened this summer, whether it be at San Diego Comic Con or elsewhere. It’s been a good summer to be a fan or to become one. We love all things geeky.

∴ As our favorite TV shows begin filming their next fall season, we are often given tiny glimpses by cast and crew to what our favorite characters will be sieged with in the future. One such glimpse is the redesign of Barry Allen’s suit on The Flash. The suit’s design feels in closer comparison to the suit in the comic books.

∴ We love Chris Evans for many, many reasons. His stoic leadership as Captain America, his affability in joining in co-star Hayley Atwell’s dubsmash wars between the Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter casts, his altruism, and now we have another reason – his directorial debut. Evans has been no stranger to telling the press through the years about his inclinations to direct, and we have the first trailer from his debut. Evans directs and stars in his new film Before We Go with Star Trek: Into Darkness’ Alice Eve. It debuted at the Toronto Film Festival last fall but the trailer has just been made available this past week.

∴ Pacific Rim is hailed as one of the modern robotic action movies that gets almost everything right. Across message boards and Tweets, fans have been salivating to know when, just when, were the heavens going to crack open and provide with them a sequel. Guillermo del Toro has answered the prayers of the masses, confirming that Pacific Rim 2 will begining filming in November. The working title appears to be Maelstrom. Del Toro also stated at SDCC, that whether or not the sequel is successful would help determine if he’s going to make a Hellboy 3.

∴ This year has seemed awfully heavy on celebrity and renowned creators deaths, and I am saddened to report this past week that another brilliant mind has been lost to us. Archie Comics artist Tom Moore passed away on July 23. Moore was 86 years old and died due to a long struggle with lung cancer. Archie Comics shared this panel in wake of Moore’s passing.
