The GCE will be attending our first Wizard World comic convention this year, and there’s no better place to take in the sights and sounds of what this convention has to offer than at Wizard World Philadelphia. The city, still brimming with energy off their big Super Bowl win, is ready to invite fans of a different kind to revel. Celebrating pop culture, movies, comics, cosplay and all the wonderful things that fly under the geek banner, the convention has set up another stellar year. The convention is in its 18th year at Philadelphia.
From May 17 – 20, fans can descend on the Pennsylvania Convention Center. There’s a long list of featured celebrity and entertainment guests. Photo opportunities and meet and greets for such guests as Sebastian Stan, Jason Momoa, Natalie Dormer, Elijah Wood, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Sean Bean, Stephan Amell, Sean Astin, Jewel Staite, Lucie Pohl and many more. The convention has also tapped some of the best comic and creative artists. Fans can meet Greg Capullo, Jim Steranko, Mike Grell, Samantha K Riley, Greg Horn, Lilian Oake, Jamie Miller, Kitty Geoghan and many other creators.
Up until May 10, attendees, artists and exhibitors can also submit pitches. These pitches will be reviewed by Wizard World and Columbia Pictures on the Thursday and Friday of the event. “After such positive feedback in our first sessions at Wizard World Comic Con Portland, we are excited to team up with Columbia Pictures on identifying outstanding original ideas from our creative attendees, artists and exhibitors in Philadelphia,” said John D. Maatta, CEO of Wizard World. “We look forward to seeing a variety of submissions and see this as an important step in a broad-based relationship with Columbia Pictures as Wizard World furthers its lead role in the pop culture industry.” The submission form can be found at: https://wizardworld.com/2018-philadelphia-pitchfest.
With plenty of live events and entertainment on hand for the weekend, guests may be feeling the need to escape. This year, attendees can once again escape within the convention itself with the return of the Wizard World Escape Rooms Presented by Last Minute Escape. There are two superhero escape rooms, The Stones of Power and The Rogue Robot. Each room allots ten minutes for fans to figure out the puzzles and escape. More programming is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
