The Geeky Weekly: March 2 – March 8
March 8, 2015With busy work weeks and after-school activities, it can be difficult to get all the details on the news you really care about. At the end of every week we compile a brief list known as The Geeky Weekly, to fill you in on the gaps. Sip your morning coffee and get your scrolling fingers moving for this weeks edition.
∴ Supernatural star Jared Padalecki turned to Facebook and Twitter to kickstart his shirt campaign for depression awareness and resources organization To Write Love on Her Arms. Technologically aided by network-mate Arrow star Stephen Amell, Padalecki is selling shirts to help people struggling with depression. On the t-shirt website, Padalecki penned a heartfelt letter about a good friend who recently committed suicide which prompted his campaign.
Hey y’all, I’d like to share something with you that takes more than 140 characters. Please read it on http://t.co/LT35ZgeyNB

∴ Independence Day is getting a sequel after many years as a solo film. While Will Smith is not reprising his role as Captain Steven Hiller, Bill Pullman is returning (he was U.S. President Thomas J. Whitmore), and also Jeff Goldblum as MIT-graduate Dave Levinson. Two new cast members were announced this past week as well. Jessie Usher will play the role of Will Smith’s son, and Liam Hemsworth is also a central character. The film is slated to premiere less than two weeks before the 20th anniversary of the first film on June 24, 2016.
∴ Jada Pinkett Smith announced she would not be returning to Gotham for season 2. Her character, Fish Mooney is currently being held captive by the Dollmaker. While she may not be returning to the show, she neither confirmed nor denied that her character could return. While it may be the end of her 1-year contract, it may not just yet bet the end of Fish Mooney.
∴ Legend of Korra fans may still be up in tears over the show’s finale, but they can get excited over new artwork. The artwork, which will be showing at The Legend of Korra / Avatar: The Last Airbender Tribute Exhibition at Gallery Nucleus will also be sold to raise funds for a LGBTQ suicide prevention hotline. Co-creator Bryan Konietzko shared one piece of artwork of Korrasami, the ship name for Korra and Asami, being sold off.
∴ A teaser picture of Battlecat from the upcoming He-Man movie surfaced this week. DeVon Franklin from Columbia Pictures posted the photo to his Twitter after a fan inquired about the movie. The movie has apparently been in development for years now but looks closer now to being a reality. Behold:
