Meet the Arkham Knight of Batman: Arkham KnightMay 22, 2015
Arkham Insider is back with another look into the world of Batman: Arkham Knight. This time Rocksteady Studios‘ Dax Ginn gives fans the down low on the Arkham Knight—Batman’s toughest foe yet! Together with Lead Character Artist Albert Feliu Gomis, Ginn discusses the inspiration behind the game’s final installment and what players can expect when they come face to face with some of Batman’s toughest villains.
Don’t worry the secret identity of the Arkham Knight is still very much secret, but Arkham Insider has some great design insights on the game’s most iconic characters. For the Arkham Knight, Gomis explains that the character exists to challenge the Bat. Everything from his weapons down to the color of his armor is meant to reflect and mock Batman. This new character is a commanding, unstoppable force with an army to back him up. So players will have to overcome this new villain and his highly skilled urban military.
Scarecrow is also back for the third installment as the mastermind behind the street war orchestrated to take down Batman. This time he’s even more formidable and frightening. Scarecrow hasn’t been seen since the first game; With this design, Gomis and his team want show Scarecrow’s back stronger than ever. Players may remember the Batman: Arkham City easter egg that hinted at the events of Arkham Knight, so it will be interesting to see how Scarecrow’s plan will play out. He’s clearly ready this time around!
The stakes are high and Batman prepares for war with a new look and an array of new gadgets in his arsenal. Gomis and his team take the classic look and give it a militarized spin that compliments the new batmobile. Batman’s armor will be flexible and give players new capabilities for moving through the city. Gomis mentions how the batmobile really drove the design behind the batsuit and their goal was to find a balance between man and machine. Players can also expect the batmobile to have its own skill tree, which will allow upgrades to the vehicle to help Batman in his fight to protect Gotham.
With little over a month left before it’s release, Batman: Arkham Knight is shaping up to be a beautiful game four years in the making. The character designs look amazing in the new engine and hopefully they’ve developed a story to match.
