It’s day zero at E3 2015 and the big names in gaming are kicking off the Expo with their annual E3 press conferences. Microsoft was up first and they did not hold back at this year’s Xbox Conference! From backwards compatibility to Rise of the Tomb Raider, Microsoft made a slew of announcements showcasing what players can expect for Xbox and PC post E3. In case you missed the Xbox Conference, we’ve compiled a quick rundown of some of the most exciting stuff!
Xbox One Backwards Compatibility
Possibly the biggest news at the Xbox Conference was the announcement of backwards compatibility for the Xbox One. Players can expect over 100 Xbox 360 titles available for the Xbox One this holiday season. Xbox 360 owners will also be able to play online with their Xbox One friends. This is a huge step in the right direction considering the number next gen. owners angry about the lack of backwards compatibility. Be sure to check out our coverage of the announcement here!
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller
Customizable game controllers have always existed but never through one of the big companies. That’s about to change with the new Xbox Elite Wireless Controller. Promising up to 255 custom button setups and swappable components, the Elite Wireless is bringing pro-level precious to players. No price point has been set but you can read more about the features here.
PC mods for Fallout 4
Continuing the trend of bridging PC and Xbox, Bethesda announced that PC mods made for Fallout 4 will be transferable to the Xbox One. One can only image the chaos that will ensue once the modding community gets their hands on the game in the fall. No word on how the bridge between the two will work, but expect more news as Fallout 4 gets closer to a release.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Lara looks a bit cold, but this trailer is hot! Hopefully we’ll get a solid release date and an official confirmation of whether this is a console exclusive or timed exclusive.
Games, games, and more games! With backwards compatibility and tons of Xbox exclusives, a big part of Microsoft’s conference is giving players a variety of new and classic games to choose from. Rare, best know for Battletoads, Banjo-Kazooie, and more is adding 30 classic games to Xbox’s extensive game collection. With Rare Replay, players will get to replay their favorite childhood games and relive their favorite memories all on Xbox One!
Microsoft HoloLens demo
VR is going to be a big part of E3 whether we want it or not. During their Xbox Conference, Microsoft unveiled their new HoloLens equipped with a new version of Minecraft specially designed to interact with the HoloLen’s interface. Through HoloLens players can interact with a 3-D virtual world, customizable via touch and sound. Minecraft appears to be the perfect fit for this new interface, but it remains to be seen how viable this new technology will be.
Halo 5: Guardians and Warzone
It wouldn’t be an Xbox Conference without a Halo announcement. This time 343 Studios showcased some Halo 5: Guardians co-op gameplay and the insane new multiplayer mode, Warzone. Halo 5 graphics are significantly improved and players will have the ability to revive fallen team members in co-op mode, giving it a very Army of Two feel. Of course the big announcement was Warzone, a 24-player multiplayer mode equipped with AI and maps four times the size of previous locations.
And there you have it, some of the most exciting news to come from Microsoft thus far. You can watch the full conference here. What did you think of the Xbox Conference? Be sure to stay tuned for more exciting E3 2015 news on GCE!
