Super Smash Bros Adds Roy and Ryu to Roster

Super Smash Bros Adds Roy and Ryu to Roster

In yesterdays Smash Nintendo Direct, Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai announced that Roy from the Fire Emblem series and Ryu from the Street Fighter series would be available to purchase as DLC characters in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS.

Roy is a returning combatant that has not made an appearance since Super Smash Bros. Melee, while Ryu is a newcomer. The latter character plays differently than any other Smash character, as he has two Final Smashes that activate based on distance from a foe, as well as moves that can be performed as one would in a fighting game – for example, inputting the quarter-circle motion while pressing A will have Ryu perform a slightly more powerful hadoken. This is sure to make Ryu the second most complicated character in a Smash game – I still believe Shulk takes the number one spot.

Also included in this new DLC pack are previously announced Lucas, from the Mother series, a Street Fighter Stage to coincide with Ryu’s release, returning Nintendo 64 stage Dreamland, a free Miiverse stage, and a multitude of Mii costumes for use with Mii Fighters. A full summary of the DLC can be found on Nintendo’s DLC page here.

Excited about this new DLC? Going to try out Ryu? Can you even get into the eshop right now (because I sure as hell can’t)? Let us know in the comments below!
