Agent Coulson is Back in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but How?

Agent Coulson has been a staple in the last few Marvel movies, but following the events in The Avengers, how is it possible he’s back in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Well, we may finally have the answer! (SPOILERS ahead…)

It all started in Iron Man, he was “Agent Phil Coulson with the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division”, a man trusted to attempt to debrief Tony Stark about his captivity and in Iron Man 2 he puts Tony into captivity and delivers one of my favorite lines of the entire film, “If you try to escape, or play any sort of games with me, I will taze you and watch “Supernanny” while you drool into the carpet.”

Since then he has also made appearances in Thor and of course in The Avengers, where fans of Coulson such as myself wanted to literally shout “NOOOOO!” at the top of my lungs as he was stabbed by Loki. Dying, he tells Director Fury that this whole thing was never going to work if the team didn’t have something to give them that push; Coulson’s death was the catalyst in all of the Avengers eventually coming to work together. So, if he died and the paramedics ‘called it’, then how can Agent Coulson be alive and well in the upcoming television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? /FILM provides the following (SPOILER)…

“In the pilot, it’s revealed Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the ultimate super spy, faked Agent Coulson’s death on purpose to motivate The Avengers. Some S.H.I.E.L.D. members were in on it (including, possibly, Maria Hill played by Cobie Smulders) but The Avengers were not. Their security clearance wasn’t high enough. Coulson was forced to hold his breath as part of the ruse and that’s a point of contention among his colleagues After the fact, Fury moved him to a remote location until things died down, and then he was reinserted into duty at the time of the show.”

Well, I don’t know about you guys, but that might be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. With all of the tech in the Marvel fandom, couldn’t someone have come up with someone a little more fantastic? No. ‘He held his breath’. Some people are for this angle, and some people are vehemently against it. Where do you stand?
