Ace Comic Con Launches This Weekend
December 6, 2017Ace Comic Con enters the arena of comic conventions this coming weekend with its inaugural event launching in Long Island, New York. Helmed by the Gareb and Stephen, who previously built Wizard World from the bottom up among other successes such as their pop culture magazine.
From December 8 to December 10, fans can descend upon NYCB Live: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for shopping at more than 90 vendors, panels, photo ops and autograph sessions. There are more than 50 writers and artists on premises and events tailored for children. The key difference of Ace Comic Con from others in the industry is the unique programming. While many larger comic conventions boast an array of celebrities and hot ticket industry professionals, Ace is focusing on creating a more intimate experience for attendees. Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot are headlining the convention and are joined by their Justice League cast mates Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller and Ciárin Hinds. Also in attendance are Netflix’s Daredevil Charlie Cox and Elektra Élodie Yung* and WWE staples such as the Undertaker, The Bella Twins, The Hardy Boys and Corey Graves. Some of the writers and artists in attendance are Marc Guggenheim, Afua Richardson, Scott Snyder and Jenny Frison.
After the Long Island show, Ace Comic Con is booked for its second event in Glendale, Arizona. From January 13 to 15, attendees at the Gila River Arena have the opportunity to meet Stan Lee, Chris Evans, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, Hayley Atwell, Laura Harrier, Sebastian Stan and other actors specifically in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In addition to providing fans with an opportunity to get up and close with their favorite actors and creators, they will also be helping to support a great cause. The convention is partnered with Save the Children. Proceeds from the charity auction will go to benefit the global humanitarian relief effort. Gareb Shamus said in a press statement in November, “When we first launched ACE Comic Con, one of the core components of our mission was to find a charitable organization whose ideals were aligned with ours. Helping kids is at the heart of what superheroes embody, and we’re thrilled to partner with Save the Children to help all kids fulfill their dreams.”
Several panels at the convention will be hosted by the award-winning journalist Geoff Boucher. Concerning the opportunity, Boucher said, “The superhero generation has a powerful voice, and Gareb has always been able to speak with this community in a respectful and authentic way. We will give fans of all ages what they want, how they want to consume it, where they want to watch or listen, across the world, all the time.”
For parents bringing children there are a series of activities planned throughout the weekend for them to enjoy. At the Kids Comic Con, art classes with master illustrators, costume contests and workshops to create their own comic books.
