The Geeky Weekly: August 30 – September 6

September 6, 2015 0 By EVA

It has been a whirlwind week for the GCE as our crew attended FanExpo Canada. The GCE was on hand with goodies like Sailor Moon bows, Harry Potter bags, beta access codes to games, and oh yeah- pass upgrades for those following instructions sent out by the team on the GCE’s Twitter. So a friendly reminder that if you would love to get in on this action to follow along on Geek Chic Elite’s Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. We’re nice people!

This week turned out to be overwhelmingly geeky. So let us check it out!

∴ Ho, Ho, Ho Doctor Who fans! Christmas came here, or, rather, something for Christmas dropped. River Song, the role made famous by Alex Kingston, is returning to the BBC heavyweight. Kingston will be reprising her role for the Doctor Who Christmas Special and it will be the first time River encounters Peter Capaldi’s Doctor. We wonder how she will take her husband’s new appearance and personality. Welcome back, sweetie.

∴ The first of several trailers released this week belongs to the season 4 trailer for Arrow. The trailer starts out with Oliver and Felicity living the sweet domestic life but soon zeroes in on some of the many problems that will face the residents of Star City. We get a better look at Digg’s new costume, Felicity becoming a certifiable badass, and new and old faces. The series premieres October 7 on the CW. Watch below yourself:

∴ The second trailer to drop this week for fall TV is the trailer for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Season 3 picks up a few months after the finale of season 2, so noticeably absent from the trailer is Jemma, who was swallowed by the mysterious alien rock, Agent May, who went on a vacation with her ex-husband, and also Ward, who is touted as this season’s big baddie. We also see continuing tensions between Inhumans vs. Humans, Skye taking on the Daisy name and calling shots, and a sneak peak at Lash – and his really bad hair. Season 3 premieres September 9 on ABC.

∴ Nintendo and Amazon have had a strange relationship in the past, but it looks like old habits die hard as Nintendo will be opening a digital storefront on the retailer’s website. Games can be purchased digitally on Amazon for the Wii U and 3DS. It was assumed Amazon and Nintendo had a strained relationship after Amazon did not sell the Wii U. Since then Amazon has sold other Nintendo products as the 3DS XL.

∴ Childhood is being resurrected for kids that grew up in the 1990’s. Nickelodeon is reportedly bringing back some of the best shows; Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, Angry Beavers, Rocko’s Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy and more. It is rumored the shows will be in crossover format.

∴ Mercedes Knight is confirmed for Marvel’s Luke Cage on Netflix. Better known as Misty Knight, the police detective, will be played by Simone Missick. Luke Cage is filming in New York City and has an expected 2016 release date. Rosario Dawson was also confirmed to reprise her Claire Temple role on the show, furthering the connections between Marvel and Netflix’s television series.
