Comic Book Portfolio Review with Webtoon’s Tom Akel at Keystone Comic Con

Comic Book Portfolio Review with Webtoon’s Tom Akel at Keystone Comic Con

September 17, 2018 0 By EVA

Of the many incredible things you can see or do at a comic convention, having a portfolio review by an industry is one of them, and it can be a very daunting task for the prospective creator. The GCE spoke with Line Webtoon’s Head of Content Tom Akel at the inaugural Keystone Comic Con about how to prepare and what to expect with the portfolio review process.

Furthermore, you may have to adjust your volume throughout the podcast as we were sitting next to an active wrestling match at the convention. This was unplanned and did make for some harsh editing. Trust us, it was much worse before.

Not only is he the Head of Content for Webtoon, but Tom is an award-winning producer, writer, and designer. Recently, he worked with illustrator Andie Tong and Stan Lee to create Backchannel, a superhero teen drama for the popular digital comics publisher. The series was co-produced by Lee’s company, Pow! Entertainment.

Keystone Comic Con took place from Sept. 14 – 16 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA. The convention is the first ReedPOP event at the venue. ReedPOP is the company behind big shows such as New York Comic Con and C2E2. Keystone Comic Con is set to return to the City of Brotherly Love August 23-25, 2019.

Webtoon held several panels during the weekend, such as the Acursian Spotlight Panel with John Barrowman, Carole Barrowman, and Erika Lewis; Women Incorporated: Webtoon Empowers Creators and Breaking In & Monetizing Your Comics With Webtoon.
