Destiny Community: SkyHighLowFlyOctober 28, 2015
I am addicted to Destiny. Don’t believe me? Here’s proof: I play the game on two different PSN accounts, and I recently bought an XB1 to play with friends that I’ve made in the Destiny community on that side of the house. If you’re doing the simple math at home, that’s nine total characters to grind. While a strong argument could be made that I need to seek help, I am not the only one who has an obsession with Destiny and it’s community.
Where is this all leading too? Well, in my constant scouring of all things Destiny on Twitter, YouTube and a litany of other mediums, I occasionally come across a few gems. No, I am not talking about the mainstream staples, although I frequent their Twitch and YouTube channels often. I am talking about those individuals and videos that occupy a niche space in the community with the potential to be mainstream. One such example is HG x SkyHigh, a force to be reckon with in the Crucible. Just see for yourself:
Now, a highly skilled Dame like this didn’t just come out of nowhere. In an interview with Sky she elaborated on her gaming history, “When I was grinding the COD: Ghosts leaderboards, and was putting in over 10 hours a day, I started recording my KEMstrikes and gameplays to analyze them and see where I could improve. That’s probably the moment when I started thinking about uploading them and ‘sharing them with the world’.”
Take a minute or two to check out some of Sky’s videos, I’ll wait. You’re probably asking yourself the same thing that I did: “Why doesn’t she have way more subscribers and views?” While Sky acknowledges the desire to expand the viewership of her channel, she’s currently working on videos that give something back to the community.
“I really want to start using my channel as a way to inform my fellow Dames & Guardians about all sorts of stuff that involves PvP. I’m not the best player, but when you put in eight hours a day or more in the Crucible, you learn a thing or two. What’s the value of information if you don’t share it? If I can inspire just one person to try to work on their gameplay, and make them a better player, solo and in a team, my work is done.”
Sky is a very active member in the Destiny community, both with her personal channel as well as with the Dames of Destiny. When I asked Sky if there were opportunities to watch her stream live, she responded, “MissFortune and myself already stream every Thursday for the Dames of Destiny. We have such a great time that I want to start streaming on my own channel more in the future.”
I am always happy to feature members of the Destiny community that believe in giving back to the community in which they derive so much enjoyment from. Sky certainly fits that bill, and is one such member that I hope to see climb the viewers board on YouTube and Twitch. So what’s next for Sky?
“There are so many new, great games on the way, that it’s hard to decide which one I want to focus on. For the moment I feel I am not even close to being done with Destiny…and of course I will be playing Halo, but not just yet. If I do start uploading Halo material, it will be after I figured the game out myself and I feel that I can contribute to the community with valuable information.”
If her success in Destiny translates even a little bit to Halo, you’ll want to be on the lookout for some rich content from her in the near future. I want to extend my deepest appreciation to Sky for taking time out of her schedule to answer a few of my questions, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for this passionate gamer.
