15 Geek Celebrities to Follow on Social Media

15 Geek Celebrities to Follow on Social Media

February 17, 2015 0 By EVA

Social media is great for keeping in touch with friends, staying in the loop on the latest news and – most importantly – creeping on the daily lives of your favourite geek celebrities. I know that sounds bad but we all do it so let’s just call this a judgement-free zone. Unfortunately, sometimes the celebrities we want to follow don’t have an online presence. It’s almost as though they don’t want us knowing the intimate every day details of their lives. Weird, right?

Luckily for us there are still hundreds of celebrities who are prepared to brave the social media scene so they can interact with their fans. Some of them post consistantly great content, while others have basically abandoned their profile for years after posting like one thing (I’m looking at you, Chris Evans’ Facebook page). Well here are some of our favourite geek celebrities who do have very active and entertaining accounts that you should be following (if you’re not already).

1. Robert Downey Jr. – Facebook, Twitter

As it says on his Twitter profile. “you know who I am”. I mean, do I really need a reason? It’s RDJ. And all those Tony Stark memes you love? Well, apparently he loves them too because they’re all over his page. It’s kind of hard to tell where the Tony Stark ends and the RDJ begins, they are literally the same human (minus a weaponized suit or 42…)

2. Stephen Amell – Facebook

I don’t know where he finds the time, but Stephen Amell is a Facebook machine. He hosts live Q&As on his page, posts videos and photos of him and the Arrow cast both on and off set, and runs various charity campaigns. Oh and let’s not forget #FanArtFriday, #MemeMonday, and #LightsaberSaturday. Sinceriously Stephen, do you even sleep?

3. Neil Gaiman – Tumblr

Personally I follow Neil Gaiman for all of his interesting insight about writing. He’s really good about answering fan questions on there too.

4. Joss Whedon – Twitter

Whedon speaketh the truth. Joss’ Twitter profile is a wonderful balance of “well thought out sarcastic humour” and “what am I even doing on this website?” Plus when it comes to geek celebrities, he’s pretty much at the top of the list.

5. Clark Gregg – Facebook, Twitter

COULSOOOOOOOOOOON!!!

…That’s it, that’s the reason.

6. Dante Basco – Tumblr

Dante Basco loves his fans and frequently interacts with them on Tumblr. You may know him better as Rufio from Hook or Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender, which makes finding him online that much easier – his URL is literally just “rufiozuko”. He’s also not one to get tired of his old roles; he’s even selling some limited Zuko “HONOR” and Rufio shirts this month.

7. Hayley Atwell – Twitter

Peggy Carter is no-nonsense, Hayley Atwell is all nonsense. That’s part of why we love her. That and she seems to be gaining a reputation for accidentally harming extras and stunt people on set.

8. Norman Reedus – Facebook, Twitter

He posts fan art, his photography, and all sorts of relevant Walking Dead articles and photos. Plus he’s Daryl Dixon, let’s be honest you should be following him anyways.

9. Ming-Na Wen – Facebook, Twitter

geek celebrities Ming-Na

In addition to being a badass on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Ming-Na is a delightfully adorable geek who posts all kinds of behind-the-scenes selfies and videos. She even encourages people to mail her beaded bracelets (she’ll send you something special in return). How can you not love this woman?

10. Mark Ruffalo – Tumblr

In the past, people have asked if Mark Ruffalo knows about Science Bros. The answer is yes. He is on Tumblr, folks. He’s seen your fandom posts. He knows.

11. Brian Michael Bendis – Tumblr

If you love comic book art and Marvel in particular, you should be following Brian Michael Bendis. Even if you’re not familiar with Bendis’ great comic books, give his page a look and you’ll probably discover some cool titles to pick up. Or heck, ask him for a recommendation of where to start, he replies to almost all of his asks, often in gif form.

12. Kris Anka – Tumblr

For similar reasons to Bendis. A fan of cool comic book art? Follow him. Love Marvel? Follow him. Like entertaining gif replies? Definitely follow him.

13. Vin Diesel – Facebook

Because “I am Groot”.

14. Michael Rooker – Facebook

He has a photo album specifically devoted to fan art, and another where he posts pictures of him with his fans at all of his public appearances. The guy’s awesome and – despite being an angry blue alien bounty hunter and a zombie survivor with a knife for a hand – he’s a sweetheart.

15. Jeremy Renner – Facebook

In case you’re ever wondering what Hawkeye is up to. Probably just shooting arrows and stuff.
