April 19, 2015Spring is beginning to flourish in my neck of the woods and excitement continues to brew for the big summer blockbusters headed our way. While I wait in anticipation for these flicks, there is still plenty of news to get excited about, and The Geeky Weekly brings you the best.
Make sure you apply your sunscreen because things are heating up.
∴ Coming to Bryan Singer’s X-Men Apocalypse is actor Olivia Munn. Munn, who is technically not a stranger to the superhero world with her role as Chess Roberts in Iron Man 2 will be getting superpowers of her own as Psylocke. The telekinetic mutant was announced this past week to be a part of the latest X-Men installment. No word yet if there will be Captain Britain!
∴ After reports of Director Michelle MacLaren departing from DC’s Wonder Woman, due to creative differences surface this week, other names were tossed into the director pile. One of the names at the forefront? Angelina Jolie. Jolie, who has had her share of action movies starring as Lara Croft, Evelyn Salt, and Wanted, also has directing cred to her name. She directed a 2007 documentary entitled A Place in Time and most recently directed Oscar-contender Unbroken, a biography on Olympian and World War II veteran Louis Zamperini. DC is also looking into signing Patty Jenkins to the movie. Jenkins directed Monster, and also episodes of Arrested Development, Entourage and The Killing.
∴ It was mentioned a couple months ago that Dominic Cooper was in talks for the main role of Jesse Custer in AMC and Vertigo’s Preacher. Another Marvel actor has also been cast, Ruth Negga, who plays Raina on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be Custer’s girlfriend, Tulip. Joseph Guligan will be Custer’s best friend Cassidy, as well as Weeds actress Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon.

∴ This year seems to be the year we loose our greats. Herbert “Herb” Trimpe passed away. Trimpe is known for having a hand in nearly every Marvel characters illustration throughout the 70’s and 80’s, especially noted for his work on The Incredible Hulk.
∴ Did you love watching animate celebrity clay figures beat each other to a bloody pulp? Of course you did. Celebrity Deathmatch is one of MTV/MTV2’s biggest cash cows and it last graced our small screen in 2007. But fear not, because celebrities’ bashing each other’s little clay brains in will be a thing of our future. The original creator, Eric Fogel is bringing all of the guts and glory back.
∴ Guitar Hero is joining conversations again with its revamped Guitar Hero Live. Pop-punk and emo veterans Pete Wentz and Gerard Way were tapped to unveil the new game this past week. You’ll be able to play an expansive library to a responsive audience and band due to Activision’s revival. Can you take the critique? GHL will be available this fall.
