
The Geeky Weekly: April 10 – April 17
April 17, 2016Another week and another stockpile of wonderful, geeky news. We’re now two weeks away from Captain America: Civil War, have you selected your side yet? It was a fantastic week for news and the Geeky Weekly is excited to bring it to you.
The new Saban’s Power Rangers logo has been revealed. The movie, modeled after the Mighty Morhpin’ Power Rangers TV will be out in theaters in 2017 and features Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Becky G. as the Yellow Ranger, RJ Cyler as The Blue Ranger, Ludi Lyn as the Black Ranger. The film is directed by Dean Israelite.
∴ Hollywood will soon ask the dilemma that has plagued every nerdling for more than 20 years. Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle? That’s because three companies are gunning for the rights to make a live action Pokemon movie. Legendary Entertainment, Sony Pictures and Warner Brothers all look to get their hands on the rights from the Pokemon Company, and make a large budgeted blockbuster. Animated Pokemon movies have been quite successful since Warner Brother’s 1999 Pokemon: The First Movie grossed more than $165 million worldwide. With CGI at the top of its game, a Pokemon movie can be a really real and badass movie.
∴ Neil Gaiman is the proprietor behind many amazingly good things, and he adds another one to his list, as he is writing a six-part miniseries of Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens. Pratchett, who passed way last year, had planned to work with Gaiman on this prior to his death.
∴ Spider-Man had a big week, between the logo and name reveal, the Marvel movie also announced some more cast members aside from Tom Holland, who manifests the role this May in Captain America: Civil War. Spider-man: Homecoming, drops July 7, 2017 and is directed by Jon Watts. On top of Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya as a character named Michelle, the movie added Laura Harrier and Tony Revolori. Neither of the characters they will be playing been announced, however, we know Laura Harrier has a big role and Tony Revolori is in Peter Parker’s circle of friends, and is not a villain.
∴ Can you kick it? Luke Cage will. Legendary hip-hop group, A Tribe Called Quest, is reportedly scoring the next Marvel Netflix series. Producer and Composer Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad are conjoining the score with their next album, The Midnight Hour. Netflix’s Luke Cage will be available for streaming on Sept. 30.
