The Joker Meets the Justice LeagueFebruary 9, 2021
Another version of The Joker is coming to life; this time in the Snyder cut of Justice League.
We’ve seen Caesar Romero; Jack Nicholson; Heath Ledger; Jared Leto; Joaquin Phoenix. Now? We’re getting Leto again. Except it isn’t the same version we’ve seen before. Snyder has taken a hatchet (if you’ll excuse the pun) to the DCEU Joker and it looks nothing like the version we saw in Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Snyder mentioned that the addition of The Joker to his cut of Justice League is the only thing he added without forethought. So it’s a new part of his vision; of course that’s not surprising when you consider his cut of the film will be four hours, so there’s a lot of room to pad out stories that might have gotten missed in a theatrical retelling.
Snyder did add though, “But I will say that it was always my intention to bring Joker into that world.”
His Joker looks very different; will he act the same, or is Snyder reinventing the portrayal in addition to the look?
We won’t know for sure until the Snyder cut drops in a few weeks on HBO Max.
