by on December 13, 2015

It was a week of gifts with the X-Men Apocalypse trailer and the first glimpse at The BFG. But that is not all the exciting news we were presented with this week. There’s plenty more to gobble up. The Geeky Weekly has the news you may have missed from all that busy holiday shopping you have been up to.

And just think, less then a week away, the world will have a new Star Wars to talk about, as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, comes out!

∴ The first images of the new live action movie directed by David Yates. The Legend of Tarzan stars Alexander Skarsgård in the titular role, Margot Robbie as Jane, Samuel L. Jackson as George Washington Williams, Christoph Waltz as Captain Rom, and Djimon Hounsou as Chief Mbonga. John Hurt, Casper Crump, and Ella Purnel also star. The movie centers on Tarzan returning to the jungle after living in London to investigate a mining camp that has taken over his homeland. It will hit theaters on July 1.

∴ Famed writer Magaret Atwood is known for her books like The Handmaids Tale and The Blind Assassin, but now she is lending her literary talent to pen a graphic novel for Dark Horse. Titled Angel Catbird, and illustrated by Johnnie Christmas, the novel tells the story of the unlikely superhero, who due to a splicing problem, is half-bird and half-cat. It’s a book safe for all ages, and is in conjunction with the charities Keep Cats Safe and Save Bird Lives. The graphic novel will be released next fall. Atwood has previously contributed to Hope Nicholson’s The Secret Loves of Geek Girls.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, the title of the sequel, was brought to life with the help of Netflix, and will be dropping on the streaming service and simultaneously in IMAX theaters on February 26, 2016. Michelle Yeoh is reprising her role as Yu Shu Lien.

∴ Dreams have come true Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans! The revival broke Kickstarter records while obtaining the funds for a full 14 episode season. Starring Felicia Day, Patton Oswalt, Jonah Ray, Dana Gould, the MST3K raised $6.3 million through pledges and merchandise sales through Kickstarter. ∴ Andy Serkis is mostly lauded for his motion capture work, such as Gollum in Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. But Mr. Serkis is well-rounded, and will be directing, acting, and writing a new Rumpelstiltskin movie. Rumored to be in the gritty direction of Snow White and the Huntsmen, Serkis was said to be picked for the job after being the second unit director for The Hobbit films. The project is also rumored to be titled Steelskin. No words yet on a release date.
