The Geeky Weekly: April 19 – April 26

What a week to be a geek. Suicide Squad Director David Ayer shared the first full-look of Jared Leto’s Joker. Avengers: Age of Ultron was released in some parts of the world, and opening everywhere else at the end of this upcoming week. Comic book publishers gear up for Free Comic Book Day. Summer, and summer blockbusters are in the horizon.

 

And as I always like to say, it’s a good time be a geek. Lives are lived very busily these days, so here’s some geeky news delivered neatly in The Geeky Weekly.

 

∴ Marvel has tapped into two great brains for their upcoming Captain Marvel project. Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve are the duo that will script the film for its 2018 release. Perlman is a lead writer on James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. LeFauve produced The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys in 2002 and scripted Pixar’s Inside Out.

 

∴ LEGO has turned into quite the juggernaut of film production. Recently the fun brick building company has shuffled around the release dates for a bunch of their movies. The spinoff of the first LEGO movie, the untitled LEGO Batman film, is now being released two months earlier on February 10, 2017. The LEGO Movie 2 is bumped up a week to May 18, 2018. However, Lego’s Ninjago film has been delayed a year and will premiere on September 22, 2017. Got all that?

 

∴ Mitch Pileggi has signed on to the X-Files revival, reprising his Walter Skinner role. Looks like Agent Skinner will be giving Mulder and Scully hell again.

 

∴ Remember a little show from the 1990’s that had Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman in it? Galaxy Quest, the show about Star Trek actors who are mistaken for space heroes by real aliens is joining the reprisal ranks. No one can deny the 1990’s are all the rage right now.

 

∴ Convention organizer Wizard Con is jumping on the subscription box service, launching the ComicConBox. The ComicConBox will deliver exclusive convention-related experiences and goods to fans. Wizard World runs 26 comic conventions all over North America. At $29.99 per month, the first box will ship out on April 30.

 

∴ The man with the plan is penning his own memoir with the help of Colleen Doran and Peter David in the form of a graphic novel. Can I get an AMEN?

 

∴ Valve is adding a ‘pay-what-you-can’ feature to Steam workshop mods. Modders can accept what Valve co-founder Gabe Newell calls donations for their work. There are concerns about this new model but only time will tell of the outcome.

∴ The Eisner Awards are known as the most prestigious comic book awards around. The nominees were recently announced, and the winners will be chosen at San Diego Comic Con. View the nominees below:
