Roberto Orci Sets Course for Deep Space
June 26, 2014The new director of the rebooted Star Trek franchise has revealed some plans for the next installment.
With the past two films directed by J.J. Abrams, Star Trek focused more on the cadets time in the academy and shortly after and they always tended to stay closer to Earth. Now, it seems that the crew truly will explore strange new worlds on it’s five year mission and they’ll boldly go where no man has gone before.
Orci, in speaking to Geoff Boucher on the Humans From Earth podcast about the film said:
[blockquote]”In this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.”[/blockquote]
While many fans are still eagerly awaiting some kind of announcement of the Borg being introduced to the new Star Trek reboot, others are referring back to their favorite episode of the Original Series, starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley. One topic that is popular from the Original Series that fans would like to see revisited is Spock’s Pon Farr, a Vulcan mating ritual that occurs every seven years where the species will die if they do not mate with someone with whom they are empathically bonded or engage in the ritual battle known as kal-if-fee. However, in the rebooted series, it is not known whether or not this popular Vulcan characteristic will come into play.

Looking forward to it. Orci seems like a good choice.
