Marvel drops Majors as Kang: reports
December 18, 2023The Associated Press, citing a person close the the studio studio spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter, is reporting that Jonathan Majors is out as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The report follows quickly on the news that Majors was found guilty of two of the four domestic violence charges he faced, recklessly causing physical injury and harassment. The jury did not convict Majors of the remaining two counts, aggravated harassment and assault with intent to cause physical injury.
Majors faces up to one year in prison for the two guilty counts.
Marvel had stuck with the embattled actor up until now, clearly unwilling to make a major change while the trial was still in question.
The loss of a major pillar of the franchise’s future surely puts an already reeling studio further on the back foot. The Marvels was a box-office disappointment, and rumours are spreading about recasting, and redirecting the franchise’s plans for the future.
Only time will tell.
It’s important to note, that while Marvel loses an actor, and Majors loses a role, his victim was subject to violence and harassment. This remains a very human story at its heart, and that cannot be overlooked.
