
Magic: The Gathering Film Gets A New Writer
June 13, 2014Magic: The Gathering was announced by 20th Century Fox earlier this year that it was entering the developmental stages and now, according to Deadline, have acquired Game of Thrones writer, producer and story editor Bryan Cogman. Previously, the first draft was completed by Simon Kinberg who is currently attached the produce the project.
Magic: The Gathering was originally launched in 1993 by Wizards of the West Coast who were eventually taken over by Hasbro. The card game is set in a world that is populated by Wizards who are known as the Planeswalkers. Players do battle with five different colours of magic with each other and the customized card decks that players use contain creatures, spells, artifacts and other fantasy elements. Magic was so popular back in the 1990s that it launched the collectible card game genre and made it incredibly popular.
Currently Stephen Davis, Brian Goldner and Greg Leeds are also attached to Magic: The Gathering with Josh Feldman and Aditya Sood serving as executive producers. There is no director attached to the project as of yet, and no plot details of the original draft have been made available.
