Deadpool Role-Plays the Marvel Universe – for real!
July 30, 2024The Marvel Multiverse Roleplaying Game (MMRPG) has dropped a new supplement, just in time for fans who wanted to pick up their pencils in dice after watching their favourite antihero in theatres! Deadpool roleplays the Marvel Universe is a 48-page standalone adventure, that includes an original comic story lead-in by Cullen Bunn (DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE) that introduces the story and the world in which your “heroes,” such as they are, will dwell.
Geared toward heroes between ranks 2-4 (think slightly above rookie street level heroes-to average powered X-Men, on the high-end) this continent spanning adventure will have your players engaged before they can shout “chimichangas!”
If you buy the physical book in store (or online and have it delivered, whatever, I’m not your mom) you’ll also score a code for a free digital redemption on Marvel Unlimited. You can also buy it on Roll20 or Demiplane!
lt includes all the character profiles you’ll need to narrate the adventure, but you’ll probably need to have a copy of the Core Rulebook handy, just in case – unless you’re Mr. Fantastic and know the rules (and are making upgrades on the fly, maybe even, who knows!) like the back of your hand.
The adventure is brisk, fun, and light-hearted but gives enough for the players to do without feeling cheated of the experience. It also includes a cameo from you know who…I’ll give you a hint, it’s that plucky Canadian co-star of Deadpool and Friend.
They do a great job of introducing the stakes and bringing players along for the ride! The book is well laid out, and as always I appreciate how lovingly they attend to all the little details. I loved reading it…which says a lot, since I rarely love reading RPGs, but they made the text fun for the narrator, which is a treat.
My only feedback on this one would be put the mission debrief at the beginning of chapter XYZ instead of the end of the preceding chapter – for flow, I think it frames the story better for someone who’s new to GMing, but it’s a minor quibble that in no way affects the enjoyment of the adventure for the players.
EDIT – I ran this adventure at a local gameday and it was a BLAST – so much fun, and so easy to run. I loved prepping it ’cause there’s little easter eggs in there that you wouldn’t ordinarily see in a book like this. The designers CLEARLY had fun putting this one together.
It played in about four hours with a group of experienced roleplayers, whose experience with the game ranged from none to limited.
