Daredevil Netflix Series Changes Show RunnersMay 25, 2014
Marvel has announced that Drew Goddard has stepped down as the show runner for the Netflix Daredevil series and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Spartacus’ Steven S. DeKnight will be taking over. Marvel has stated that Goddard’s scripts will still be used on the show, and that he will be remaining on board in an executive producer role with the series as well as a consultant.
DeKnight is also a Joss Whedon collaborator in that he wrote for Buffy the Vampire Slayer along with Goddard, and has worked with Whedon on his other TV series, Dollhouse, before he served as executive producer and show runner for Starz‘ Spartacus. This makes the change in showrunners a little easier to swallow as DeKnight has a proven resume of skills that will lead him to creating a well-designed series.
Goddard was originally announced as the show runner for Daredevil, but was recently signed to write and direct The Sinister Six and with that movie going very quickly into production at Sony, it came into question how likely he would be able to take on both projects simultaneously, so its obvious that Sony was able to pull Goddard into the Spider-man universe.
Daredevil currently has a 13 episode order with Netflix with a likely debut in spring 2015.
