[ D23 Expo ] News Round Up 2

by on July 16, 2017

It’s time for more news from D23 Expo in Anaheim! More of everything we think you need to know about what Mickey Mouse is up to. It turns out he’s taking on Thanos and the First Order, and making more live action versions of animated classics.

Disney has changed a lot since I was a kid.

We’re gonna take a look at some of the fun things we’ve learned from the live action Disney films panel. Lets get started with the one we’re most excited about.

“Star Wars”

Leaving us more than a little concerned, the Star Wars portion of the panel at D23 neglected to mention the Han Solo movie. They were too preoccupied blowing our nerdy minds with new footage from “Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi”. The force is strong with this sizzle reel of both shots from the movie and a ton of behind the scenes footage.

Did you see Laura Dern? Did you see her? She’s in Star Wars now and her hair is purple!

“Avengers: Infinity War”

If you see any of the people that were at the Marvel panel that got to see the Infinity War footage, please tell them that I hate them. Disney and Marvel are being greedy and not showing us that sweet, sweet footage that we crave so much. From what I’ve read the footage went a little something like this:

The clip begins with the Guardians in the Milano. Then suddenly a distressed Thor is on the windshield like a bug on the highway. They bring him in and Mantis wakes him up. “Who the hell are you guys?” he asks.

“Something’s very wrong,” Thor’s voice echoes while we see various shots of our MCU lineup including Loki holding up the Tesseract, Peter Parker on a school bus with the hair on his arms standing up (Spidey sense confirmed!), and Iron Man standing with the Guardians.

“Fun isn’t really something one considers when balancing the universe,” Thanos says, then we see a terrified Gamora reacting to her dear old dad, “But this does put a smile on my face.”

Star-Lord, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man are all in battle, (SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING SPOILER!!!) Spidey is wearing his new Iron Spider costume from the end of Homecoming. He appears to be injured and no longer wearing the mask when he utters “I’m sorry” to his father figure Tony Stark. Winter Soldier and Black Panther are seen, along with what appears to an imprisoned Vision, Captain America with longer hair and apparently rocking a beard, Iron Man back in what looks like the Hulkbuster armor and Black Widow with blonde hair.

Then Thanos literally throws a planet at our heroes.

Things are looking bleak for The Avengers. We’ll have to wait till May 4th of next year to see how this goes. Hopefully we see this teaser trailer online soon.

“The Lion King”

Another clip exclusive for the lucky jerks at D23 is Jon Favreau’s live action “Lion King”. They saw the realistic African landscapes and many different animals, and it ends with the iconic moment of Rafiki introducing the new king to his subjects while Circle of Life plays.

“The Lion King” hits theatres July 19th, 2019.

“Dumbo”

Fans also got a first look at Tim Burton’s live action “Dumbo”. They saw what the title elephant looks like and a short clip with Tim Burton on the Casey Jr., which is a train that appears throughout Disney canon that may or may not have sentience.

GOTTA FLY – Visionary filmmaker Tim Burton helms the live-action reimagining of Disney’s 1941 animated classic “Dumbo.” “’Dumbo’ was always one of my favorite Disney films,” said Burton. “We’re trying to give it the same heart, feeling and emotion that we all loved about the original.” Starring Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins, “Dumbo” is currently in production in England. © 2017 Disney Enterprises, Inc. “A Wrinkle In Time”

That’s the first teaser for Disney’s “A Wrinkle In Time” based on the Science Fantasy novel by Madeleine L’Engle. And because Oprah was there everybody in attendance got a free poster!

“You get a poster! You get a poster! Everyone gets a poster!”

I really want to see that Infinity War footage, but the Star Wars reel will do for now! Which live action Disney project are you most excited about?
