Bring Back Reading Rainbow Kickstarter CampaignMay 29, 2014
You may remember actor LeVar Burton from his role as the visor-wearing engineer Geordi on Star Trek: The Next Generation, or like millions of children, you may have grown up with him on the show Reading Rainbow.
Reading Rainbow was a huge part of my childhood and one of the main reasons I love to read and write. It taught generations of children that we can go anywhere and do anything with our imaginations. But sadly, nowadays many children don’t read at all and a great many are illiterate. LeVar Burton is looking to change this and using Kickstarter to help fund it.
LeVar took to Kickstarter to raise the money need to bring Reading Rainbow back, not just on TV but to bring free books to classroom and teach kids the endless joy of reading. There are plans to create an app that many children can use to learn how to read, or even have someone read a story for them. After only one day he reached his goal of $1,000,000 but the donations are still coming in. Every dollar matters and the more raised the more books that can be sent and the more children can be given a proper education.
The Kickstarter page found here, details all of the ideas that the project is working towards and what reward levels you can purchase in order to help fund the project. Rewards range from a thank you to a private dinner with LeVar himself and for the Trekkies, there’s even some Star Trek related rewards as well.
