Batwoman Soars: An Interview with Star Dougray ScottOctober 3, 2019
Batwoman, the latest entry into the Arrowverse (RIP Arrow) series of television shows, premieres this Sunday (on Showcase at 8 pm in Canada, on The CW in the United States), and according to series star Dougray Scott the show is “surprising.”
Not surprising that it’s good mind you, but because of how dark the show is. “It’s much darker, I think, than people will expect from a CW show.”
It’s an intriguing proposition, considering Arrow isn’t exactly considered ‘lighter fare,’ particularly its early seasons (though in Canada, Showcase is well known for its ground-breaking drama, but Scott is forgiven for not knowing that), what with all the rampant murder, and all.
Scott plays Jacob Kane, owner of the Crows Private Security outfit, which provides security to Gotham in the vacuum left by the disappearance of Batman. Kane still grieves the loss of his first wife and a daughter who were slain by the criminal underbelly of Gotham City.
Kane’s only surviving daughter, Kate, was banished to a distant military school, ostensibly to keep her safe, but perhaps also to hide a reminder of his life’s greatest pain: the loss of his first wife and other daughter.
Kate eventually returns to Gotham and stumbles upon her cousin Bruce’s secret: the Bat Cave. Eventually, Kate assumes the mantle of Batwoman, primed to serve as an antagonist for her father.
At least for a while.
Will Kane ever come to learn Batwoman’s identity?
It’s quite likely; expect sparks to fly.
