At The Game Awards 2024, CD Project Red unveiled the first look at The Witcher 4, the much-anticipated follow-up to their magnum opus, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt.
It’s hard to make judgments on a game because of a trailer – force knows, we’ve been hurt before – but the trailer does answer one burning question: who will the game’s protagonist be?
It’s Ciri.
She’s a witcher, and unsurprisingly, kicks ass.
None of the powers she revealed in the third game are evident, but there’s plenty of time for that – what was compelling is that chain…are we going to see a new weapon choice in The Witcher 4? Something that can be used in combat, to overcome environmental perils, and to navigate the world in a unique way?
Seems possible. One the one hand it’s hard to begrudge this studio for designing something cool, but on the other, they took the time to design it…so hopefully there’s a reason.
The ending is dark, but perfect.
