On The Rack – February 5th, 2014

February 3, 2014 0 By EVA

Dredd: Underbelly hit the ground running last week but it wasn’t the only great title that came out. There were quite a few titles that seemed to boast some great writing and artwork. Guardians of the Galaxy took an interesting twist, giving us the perspective of their team during the events of the All New X-Men #22. This brought the introduction of this story arc together beautifully leaving the reader wanting more right away. While we wait on the reprint of Dredd: Underbelly, lets take a look at what you can pick up at the comic shop this Wednesday, February 5th.

Boom! Studios

Dark Horse Comics

Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Search Library Edition HC

It’s not quite a comic, but it hits the rack this week regardless. If you can’t find it at your local shop, I’m sure it could be placed on special order. Great piece to add to your Avatar collection.

#1 for $1: Mass Effect: Foundation

Yup, you read that right. Grab the reprint of Mass Effect #1 for only a dollar. These issues that come out through the different companies at $1 are a great way to find some new titles you may not have picked up before.

The Star Wars #5

George Lucas’ original rough draft screenplay brought to life in comic form is at issue 5 this week. It’s been an interesting take on what Star Wars could have been.

“Remember the scene in Star Wars where the Sith Knight traps General Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Annikin Starkiller, and the alien Han Solo-and they have to fight their way free and steal an Imperial starship? No? That’s because this is The Star Wars-based on George Lucas’s original rough-draft screenplay! Experience a Star Wars that never was!”

Action Comics #28

Greg Pak brings us an absolutely beautiful cover this week with action comics. Sometimes, just a cover can draw you in. This is one of those covers for you Superman fans out there.

Batman: Jokers Daughter #1

This one shot is going to take you into the depths of DC’s villain. If you’ve been wondering who exactly the Joker’s daughter is like I have, this looks like the one that will give us some answers.

“Who is The Joker’s Daughter? What horrors lurk in the mind of this deranged lunatic, and why is there more to her than meets the eye? More than just a crazy person who stumbled upon The Joker’s face, more than just a woman with a mission, The Joker’s Daughter sees herself as a woman on the path of greed, dominance and lordship over the Gotham Underground. This special issue tells a sordid tale in the life of one of DC’s most popular new villains!”

Forever Evil #5 (of 7)

As we get closer to the end of this series, it looks like Forever Evil is about to come into some major plot twists and events.

“With everything to lose, Lex Luthor and his Injustice League raid the stronghold of the Crime Syndicate with consequences so devastating, the DC Universe will never be the same!”

Green Lantern / Red Lanterns #28 Combo Pack

I touched on this before and DC took an interesting way to bring this out. Green Lantern and Red Lantern will be presented in one combo issue with two covers.

“With dozens of sectors in open rebellion against the Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan is faced with a crisis in the sector most important to him: 2814, home of Earth . . . as well as Ysmault, home of the Red Lanterns. Hal made a dangerous bargain with Guy Gardner, and now it’s time to pay up! Plus: Guy and the Red Lanterns take over policing Sector 2814! And you’ll want to keep reading Red Lanterns next month to see what happens to their newest member: (spoiler omitted)”

Frank Castle’s in the City of Angels, looking to give the devil his due. Things aren’t all they appear, though, with a highly trained military hit squad hot on Frank’s tail. Caught between a posse of Punisher predators and targets of his own one-man-war, Frank’s manifest destiny may be a shallow grave!”

wolverineWolverine #1

Why does Wolverine have a gun?  And another title reboot?  Guess it wouldn’t be a Marvel NOW universe starting point unless they rebooted everyone’s favourite canucklehead.

“WOLVERINE NO MORE? After the events of KILLABLE, Wolverine has something to prove. Before he can take on Sabretooth again, he’ll need to build himself back up, get better and stronger than he’s ever been . . . but it’s not as easy as he thought, and he’ll soon find himself turning to other means of revenge when the normal channels don’t seem to be working fast enough. Can he fight back his demons, or is this the beginning of a Wolverine who’s gone to the dark side?”

X-Men #10

Our all female cast of X-Men hit issue 10 this week. It’s girls, It’s X-Men. It may be a title for the ladies?

Lady Deathstrike has put together an all new Sisterhood, her own illuminati to take down the X-Men and take over the world. Meanwhile, M settles in and Rachel comes to terms with her relationship with Sublime.”

You can even email me directly if you’d prefer and tell me what you thought of certain titles. I may even throw in some quotes from you guys in future articles, so share it around and let me know what you think.
