Marvel To Launch Doctor Strange Solo Series
June 22, 2015Marvel is to launch a Doctor Strange solo comic series.
The new comic series is part of the post-Secret Wars All New All Different Marvel line, and will be written by Jason Aaron (Thor) and drawn by Chris Bachalo (Uncanny X-Men).
Marvel Editor Nick Lowe told EW: “This is a Doctor Strange who is going to get hurt real bad, real quick. And who is also going to make you feel things. And not just think things, but feel things… hopefully a little bit of both.”
While Stephen Strange has been an integral part of the Marvel Universe in recent years, it has been as part of the Avengers set up, most recently as part of the reformed Illuminati in New Avengers.
His last solo run was as part of The Oath miniseries back in 2007, written by Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Saga) and drawn by Marcos Martin (Batgirl: Year One).
However, interest in the Sorcerer Supreme has rarely been so high, with his entry into Marvel’s cinematic universe set for November 2016 with Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness) in the titular role.
Last week it was revealed that Chiwetel Ejiofor had joined the cast, possibly as Baron Mordo, while Tilda Swinton is believed to be playing the Ancient One.
Actually, the latest solo Doc Strange stories are 2010’s “Strange: The Doctor Is Out” miniseries by Mark Waid and Emma Rios and 2012’s Doctor Strange: Season One graphic novel by Greg Pak and Rios.
