Why Adam Scott Could Be The Best Choice For Han SoloDecember 11, 2015
There has been recent casting rumours of Disney looking to cast a younger Han Solo for a stand alone franchise, and I think I have found the perfect candidate.
On this last Tuesday it was announced that Chris Miller and Phil Lord will be directing a stand alone Han Solo movie based on a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Return of the Jedi). With this announcement came the flood of who people wanted to see cast as a younger Han, since Ford is out of the question at this point. Outlets have pointed to actors such as Taron Egerton (Kingsman), Nicholas Hoult (X-Men, Mad Max), and Garret Hedlund (Tron), which are all nice choices but don’t seem to hit the mark. They may be able to pull off a young Han, as far as looks and action goes, but I dont think they will be able to capture something that is very important to the character, which is his dry humor and charisma.
This is why I went for Adam Scott, he not only would have the look, but would also have the chops to make this younger Han have the right amount of swagger and sarcasm we need.
Most people know Scott from films such as Step Brothers, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and television shows Parks and Rec. In his roles he has proven that he can pull off not just a goofy nerdy character, but also the down to earth gritty roles which would be needed as Han Solo. It has also been proven that comedians make the best action heroes, just look at Chris Pratt (GoG, Jurassic Park), Paul Rudd (Ant Man), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), and even Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible, Star Trek).
Scott is also a fan of Star Wars, as stated in many interviews that he has had over the past few years. When he was being interviewed by Details, he commented about this.
“…I’m an R.E.M. nerd, and have been since I was 14. I love Star Wars and Game of Thrones, too.”
If we are going to have someone play the role, id rather have a fan play it who has been watching the movies for the past 30 years, than someone who just stumbled upon it with no real appreciation for the content.
Scott would also be able to pull off the look of Han Solo quite well, as a not too young, but still younger than Ford was in the original movies. No one wants a squeaky clean looking Han Solo, thats not who the character is, and if thats what is going to go up on the screen, I can imagine some backlash regarding that.
I’m sure no one in Hollywood will ever read this, or probably consider my opinions on the matter. But Adam Scott, or someone similar would be perfect for the role of a younger Han Solo, please do not clean him up just to make him pretty for the screen. We need a gritty, suave, badass smuggler that will not take anyone s#^& and crack a few jokes while he does it.
Don’t mess this one up Disney.
