Top 5 Alan Rickman Roles

2016 has not been treating the world of entertainment very well so far. We lost David Bowie very recently at the age of 69 to cancer, and unfortunately cancer has claimed another victim. Alan Rickman died at the age of 69 to cancer today, and we could not be more upset at the news. Rickman was a wonderful actor and lit up many lives in the roles he played over the years. In honor of that, we have created a short list of roles that he was most known for.

5. Galaxy Quest – Alexander Dane

Praised as one of the best sci-fi comedies ever made, Alan Rickman played Alexander Dane who was Dr.Lazarus on Galaxy Quest. Rickman really showed everyone his comedic chops in this movie as a typecast Shakespearean actor, and don’t you worry we will one day beat cancer. “By Grabthar’s hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged!”

4. Dogma – Metatron

Rickman played the voice of God, Metatron in Kevin Smith’s Dogma. He played a wonderfully sarcastic, pessimistic angel who didn’t mind to have a drink one in a while. Maybe while he is up there Alan might get a shot to take over for a bit.

3. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves – The Sheriff of Nottingham

This was one of my first introduction to Alan Rickman as a kid, the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. I loved Robin Hood due to Disney, and it was the first time i could see it done live action. Regardless of how cheesy the movie one, there is always one line that will stick out for me…

2. Die Hard – Hans Gruber

For most millenials this is the ultimate Rickman role. The terrorist Hans Gruber only wanted $640 milllion, thats not too much to ask for now is it!

“I wanted this to be professional, efficient, adult, cooperative. Not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way… so he won’t be joining us for the rest of his life. We can go any way you want it. You can walk out of here or be carried out. But have no illusions. We are in charge. So, decide now, each of you. And please remember: we have left nothing to chance.”

1. Harry Potter Series – Severus Snape

Alan Rickman was able to bring his acting to a younger generation when he took on the role of the anti-hero Severus Snape. This was Rickman’s longest recurring role, and the one he was most famous for after the 9 movie series. Snape was a tragic character that would do anything for the woman he loved, and would ensure that her son would live a full life and not fall into the hands of Voldemort. He gave his life for Harry, never letting him know until the last second how much he cared for him. Snape was the father Harry never knew he had, an angel in black.

You were an amazing actor and touched many lives, you will be missed greatly.
