It is Sweeny Todd meets Mad Max in this high-octane SyFy pursuit. There’s fire, there’s rock and souped-up muscle cars that are gassed up on blood in this grindhouse endeavor. Blood Drive explores the gory underbelly of dystopian Los Angeles, where water is sparse (that’s not that far off), police enforcement is privatized, and life looks grim. There’s a heavy metal circus headed by a mysterious man named Slink. If the premise of the show sounds familiar, it’s because it is loosely based off the movie Blood Car, which came out in 2007.

The first two episodes, air June 14 on SyFy at 10pm EST. The first episode, “The Fucking Cop” is written by creator James Roland (Weeds, Wristcutters: A Love Story, Mad Men) and directed by David Straiton (Grimm, Hemlock Grove, Agents of SHIELD). The second episode is called “Welcome to Pixie Swallow”

In the first episode, we meet the characters and the stakes of the blood race. There’s Grace, played by Christina Ochoa (Matador, Animal Kingdom) who drives a stunning red car. She is paired with Arthur, played by Alan Ritchson (Black Mirror, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), a cop who is trying to do the right thing. They are set on a death race, competing against several other teams, which characters such as Clown Dick, The Scholar and Fat Elvis. They race from LA to Phoenix to get to the Mayhem festival.
