On The Rack – February 12th, 2014

February 11, 2014 0 By EVA

Get ready for another action packed week of comics!

There’s everything from exciting titles, reprints, and brand new series that’s sure to capture some attention right away. I had the pleasure of picking up Green Lantern / Red Lanterns last week as I couldn’t wait to see the new Red Lantern: Supergirl. Yes that’s right, DC took one Supergirl and gave her a ring. This should get interesting really quick considering they’re about to get Superman involved in the situation too.

The feedback for On The Rack has been fantastic, so don’t be afraid to shoot me a comment or email anytime with requests or conversation. Let’s get into this weeks run, we’ve got a bunch to cover.

Boom! Studios

SOASons of Anarchy #6

One piece of great news coming out of Boom! this week is that their Sons of Anarchy title that was intended to be a 6 part mini series has been received well enough to become a regular series now. This week wraps up the first story arc.

“Now an ongoing series! this is it, the thrilling conclusion of the first arc! The Sons of Anarchy have nowhere to run, and the Ghost Brothers have every upper hand. With the very status of the club at stake, and the memory of his dead daughter still achingly fresh, Tig must find a way to protect Kendra and protect the club…but for once, those aims may be at odds.”

Robocop To Live And Die In Detroit One Shot

The movie is out Wednesday so get into the Robocop spirit and grab this one shot that should tie in with the movie directly.

“RoboCop is too good at his job. While the people love him, his ability to find and remove corruption puts fear into the corporate heads and government leaders. With OCP at the wheel, they will do their best to steer him away from the powerful corrupt leaders, and keep him on the lower-level criminals. But some crimes cannot go unpunished.”

Dark Horse Comics

Star Wars #14

The next issue of Star Wars hits the shelf this week with a fantastic Vader cover. A must have for you Star Wars fans out there.

“Ben Kenobi haunts Darth Vader’s dreams, even as the name Skywalker occupies his waking thoughts. The Rebel victory over his former flagship has exposed spies and incompetence within the Empire, and Vader has decided an off-the-record mission of vengeance is needed to clear his head-and restore his reputation!”

DC Comics

Batman #28

Batman Zero Year is about to tie up its story arc with this concluding issue.

“ZERO YEAR: DARK CITY reaches its conclusion! The final chapter of Zero Year is almost upon us, and we’ve saved the best for last! What corners of Batman’s past will be revealed? And how will they impact his very near future? Find out here!”

Harley Quinn #1 (2nd Printing)

Did you miss out on this during the first run? Clay Mann delivers a 2nd printing variant cover that is sure to please the Harley fans.

“Harley is set to begin her new life, but she needs a job first! Enter the Coney Island Roller Derby! It’s game time as Harley sets out to destroy her competition – literally!”

royalsRoyals Masters Of War #1 (of 6)

This one looks promising and since its only 6 issues, what have we got to lose?

“The year is 1940. As the Blitz destroys London and kills thousands, the Royal Family looks on. But in this world, the only people with special abilities are Royalty, and the purer the bloodline, the greater their abilities. So why don’t they stop the carnage with their powers? A truce between the Earth’s nobles has kept them out of our wars-until now. When England’s Prince Henry can take no more and intervenes, will it stop the planet’s suffering or take it to another level? Writer Rob Williams (Judge Dredd: Trifecta, Low Life, ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN and Daken) and artist Simon Coleby (The Authority, Judge Dredd: Year One and Trifecta) team up to bring you this epic of World War proportions. History will be transformed in a way you’ve never seen before.”

Superman Wonder Woman #5

I’ve said it more than once, and I’ll say it again; I’ve really been enjoying this series so far, and it just keeps getting better and better.

“Faora has joined Zod–and now, Earth must kneel before their combined might! Even Superman and Wonder Woman can’t stop their plan for the Phantom Zone!”

Dynamite Entertainment

Red Sonja Dollar Book #1

Remember last weeks Mass Effect was a dollar? This week Dynamite is treating us with a Red Sonja issue at only $1.

“ONLY ONE DOLLAR!!! Red Sonja gets a fresh new attitude by the dream team of writer Gail Simone and artist Walter Geovani, on the book they were born to create. Sonja pays back a blood debt owed to the one man who has gained her respect, even if it means leading a doomed army to their certain deaths! You do not want to miss this re-introduction the She-devil with a Sword!”

Sherlock Holmes Moriarty Lives #2 (of 5)

If you are anything like me, you can’t get enough Sherlock. Since this series is only on issue 2, it shouldn’t be difficult to go into your local shop and pick up issue #1 while you get this.

“Stranded in Switzerland, his criminal network in tatters, and with the world believing him dead, the world’s most notorious villain, Professor James Moriarty, faces his greatest challenge yet – taking care of an orphaned child. Bound by a solemn promise, and determined to seek revenge against a local madman, Moriarty begins a clever campaign to work his way inside his enemy’s fortress. The trap is set, and Moriarty is determined to succeed, but is he villainous enough for the task?”

Image Comics

Fuse #1

Murder and Space makes for a brand new series by Daredevil writer Anthony Johnson.

“THE RUSSIA SHIFT, Part One

Working homicide 22,000 miles up on an orbiting energy platform, in a five-mile-long jury-rigged steel city stuffed with a half million people, with no help from your so-called colleagues back on Earth, is more than tough… it’s murder!

Cynical, foul-mouthed veteran ANTONY JOHNSTON (UMBRAL, Wasteland, Daredevil) gets partnered with fresh-faced idealist JUSTIN GREENWOOD (Wasteland, Resurrection) for a new crime series with attitude! Murder, mayhem, and mystery-22,000 miles straight up.”

Manifest Destiny #4

“Surrounded by buffalotaur and fighting for survival, what Lewis and Clark need most is a monster killer. And her name is Sacagawea.”

Walking Dead #121

All Out War keeps going and I’m anticipating Jesus being just as badass as he was last issue!

“ALL OUT WAR: Part Seven In the aftermath of the unthinkable.”

Gambit on the cover with… kittens?

” Not Brand X. The All-New X-Factor is meant to help people… But which one of their own has a secret? Hint: It’s Gambit.”

All New X-Men #23

“THE TRIAL OF JEAN GREY – PART 3! Jean is on trial and it’s up to the All-New X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy to get her free.”

Revolutionary War Deaths Head II #1

Have you been following the Revolutionary Qar? Part 4 brings back an old school character with this one shot.

“Part 4 of ‘Revolutionary War’. The long-awaited return of DEATH’S HEAD — one of the biggest hits of the original Marvel UK! o Death’s Head! Death’s Head II! On an adventure together for the first time EVER! o What threat could be grave enough to bring these two heroes together from across time? How about the villainous Mys-Tech organization resurfacing with an army?!”

Superior Spider-Man #27.NOW

Get ready Spidey fans, Goblin Nation begins here!

“Goblin Nation #1 (of 5) The so-called Superior Spider-Man has failed. Under his watch, the Green Goblin took control of New York’s underworld. This is all Otto Octavius’ fault. Now it’s his responsibility to take the Goblin down. Win or lose, this shall be Otto’s greatest battle. Whatever you do, don’t miss the first chapter of the biggest event in the entire Superior Spider-Man Saga! The End starts here. Superior Spider-Man versus… THE GOBLIN NATION!”

X-Force #1

X-Force is back. Again. With another reboot. Yeah, it may not be as cool as Wolverine with a gun, but it’s another x-book we don’t want to miss!

“Almost every sovereign state in the Marvel Universe makes use of sanctioned superhumans to protect national interests and pursue a covert agenda. The United States has the Secret Avengers. The United Kingdom has MI13. And mutantkind has X-FORCE. In this dirty, secret, no-holds-barred, deadly game of superhuman black ops, veteran X-Man Cable and his team will spy, torture, and kill to ensure that the mutant race not only has a place in the world . . . but also a stake in it.”
