On The Rack – August 27th, 2014

August 26, 2014 0 By EVA

We take a moment this week to put down the ice bucket challenges and dry off to read some more new comics coming out this Wednesday. We like to try and show you some new and old familiar titles each week so you can keep up with you great hobby of collecting and reading. With Toronto Fan Expo right around the corner, lets take a quick look at what’s hitting the shelves before we all rush off for the 4 day extravaganza. I’m sure there is lots out there to appeal to everyone and may even be some titles you can get signed by special guests at any con you may be attending.

Dark Horse Comics

Star Wars Legacy II #18

Star Wars fans alike just can’t get enough while waiting for the new trilogy. Have you been reading updates, spoilers, and rumours? Either way, you can get some great original tales in this weeks issue.

“Ania Solo and her friends find themselves fighting alongside the Imperial Knights and the Empress herself against a legion of Sith! While the others fight for control of the galaxy, Ania fights to save her friend-Imperial Knight Jao Assam, who has been enslaved by the dark side!”

DC Comics

Aquaman #34

Why not throw some love to the king of the sea this week? Have you picked up any of the story since the launch of New 52 in 2011? He has a decent storyline and a pretty solid book all around.

“The ruthless Chimera has arrived to destroy Aquaman – and Arthur may not be powerful enough to stop him! But with Atlantis in turmoil, does he have any allies left to save him?”

Batman Superman #13

“A new arc begins following the events of ‘FIRST CONTACT.’

The worlds of Batman and Superman come to an explosive clash as something terrible happens to the World’s Finest team, and a Dark Knight who is not quite himself must team up with Lois Lane to find a missing Man of Steel.

Meanwhile, Selina Kyle encounters a person of amazing strength who has no idea who he is.”

Flash #34

Flash is always an all around interesting and intricate character. With plenty of speed force, time travel, and alternate realities, I can see how one can get so confused so easy. Flash is an integral part of the DC universe and if you haven’t given him a chance, you should consider it.

“Time is getting closer as Future Flash reaches the point that broke his spirit – Wally West’s death – while Wally meets his uncle Daniel, the Reverse Flash, and Barry Allen is trapped in the middle!”

Superman #34

Supes, as some of you know, is a personal favourite, so I couldn’t go with out putting his current issue into the mix. John Romita Jr continues to dazzle the pages with his artwork as the story continues this week.

“Geoff Johns and John Romita, Jr. continue their epic Superman run with ‘THE MEN OF TOMORROW’ chapter 3! Introducing the bizarre villain known as The Machinist – the man behind the recent technological attacks on Metropolis. But what is his strange connection to Superman? Where is he from? And what does The Machinist want with The Daily Planet? Plus, the mystery behind the disaster at the Ulysses Research Lab sends Clark on an investigation that will reveal a dark secret from his past.”

IDW Publishing

Ghostbusters #19

Some people love the Ghostbusters, and others are just plain wrong. This week marks another issue of this great series.

“Tiamat is too powerful to be destroyed and her growing interest with humanity promises unheard of catastrophe for the city, county, and state of New York if the Ghostbusters don’t come up with a fix… and fast! But with all of their usual methods laughed off, will the team have to make a deal with devil to save the day? Find out in the penultimate installment of Mass Hysteria!”

Image Comics

Outcast #3

Robert Kirkman’s new series hits again this week and is sure to be a same day sell out.

“‘I REMEMBER WHEN SHE LOVED ME.’ KIRKMAN and AZACETA’s horror epic continues. Details of Kyle’s life, in the time before he returned to Rome, West Virginia, are revealed…as the danger from all around him intensifies.”

Spawn #246

Do you still follow Spawn? If not, here is another Image original about to hit a miletstone marker soon at 250 issues in a few short months.

“An unthinkable act takes place in Sara’s apartment. Meanwhile, Marc learns Jim’s dark secret.”

comics3

Wayward #1

Another new and promising looking title hits this week. I’ll let the synopsis speak for itself.

“BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER FOR A NEW GENERATION! Rori Lane is trying to start a new life when she reunites with her mother in Japan, but ancient creatures lurking in the shadows of Tokyo sense something hidden deep within her, threatening everything she holds dear. Can Rori unlock the secrets of her power before it’s too late?

JIM ZUB (SKULLKICKERS, Samurai Jack), STEVE CUMMINGS (Legends of the Dark Knight, Deadshot), and JOHN RAUCH (INVINCIBLE) team up to create an all-new Image supernatural spectacle that combines the camaraderie and emotion of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the action and mystery of Hellboy. Don’t miss it!”

Marvel Comics

All New X-Men #31

With a great writing and artist team up, this title continues to go strong with Marvel, using familiar characters and new stories. I’ve boasted about this title previously so I hope you’ve jumped on this one and continue to enjoy it.

“AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. VARIANT BY MIKE DEL MUNDO

ICEMAN UNLEASHED! Young Bobby Drake takes to the offensive!

For someone who’s said she doesn’t find him particularly pleasant to be around, Laura seems to have taken an odd interest in Warren.”

Avengers #34

“ORIGINAL SIN tie-in! – ‘THIS PROBLEM OF AVENGERS’

The first Avenger meets the last Avenger…

And the Avengers World crumbles.

You won’t believe what comes next.”

Guardians of the Galaxy #18

With Bendis writing this title as well as All New X-Men, one could understand how both titles are going pretty strong.

“Original Sin Tie-In!

You know you want to know how Star-Lord got back from the Cancerverse.

And didn’t Nova go in there with him? Guess he’s not into the whole ‘no man left behind’ thing.”

comics4

Inhuman #4

Well, Marvel has this one classified again, but you can pick it up if you’re a fan of male Thor being on the cover.

Wolverine #12

With not much time left, everyone has their eyes on the old canucklehead right now to see how this death story arc pans out.

“ONE MONTH TO DIE! A DOUBLE-SIZED SERIES FINALE! Looks like Sabretooth is ready for his final showdown with Logan and he sure picked a meaningful venue. Didn’t we just see a fight in a shopping mall that seriously scarred Logan? Oh, right. That whole ‘messing with Wolverine’ thing.”

This concludes this weeks pull list for On The Rack.
