On The Rack: January 22, 2014
January 20, 2014Welcome to another week of On The Rack. We hope you found the list last week a helpful guide and picked up some titles from your local shop.
This week we are packed full of titles in the industry which is shaping up to be a great week. DC has a bunch of great titles coming out and Marvel is kicking into a bunch of new story arcs that are looking to have some great promise to them. With that being said, lets jump right into the list for this week.
DC Comics
Batman #27
Greg Capullo and Scott Snyder are still teamed up and bringing you some of the best stories and artwork together on this Batman series. Keep your eyes peeled for the Scribblenauts variant cover this month.
“‘ZERO YEAR’ reaches an all-important crossroads as Batman and Jim Gordon try to turn the lights back on in Gotham City. This issue leads directly into the final arc of Zero Year, which begins here next month!”
Harley Quinn #2
The next issue of Harley is finally here. She is a hot seller and has been a fun read. A must have for the Bat fans and Harley fans.
“Harley and guest star Poison Ivy set out to rescue a bunch of cute puppies and kitties! What could possibly go wrong?”
Justice League #27
“A FOREVER EVIL tie-in!
With the Justice League still missing, a barely functional Cyborg will need help if he’s going to take down the Crime Syndicate! To do that, he must find Doctor Will Magnus!”
IDW Publishing
X-Files Conspiracy Ghostbusters #1
If you are a fan of both X-Files and The Ghostbusters, IDW is doing a crossover story between the two which you may enjoy.
“The Conspiracy continues! The Lone Gunmen investigate their first lead, the Ghostbusters. Are they frauds and charlatans, bilking unwitting clients out of money? Or do they have special insight into the afterlife? And how are they connected to the plague that’s poised to wipe out humanity?”
Image Comics
Walking Dead #120
All out war continues on in The Walking Dead, with fans biting their nails on who may be getting “offed” during this story arc.
“‘ALL OUT WAR,’ PART 6 This war has taken a toll.”
Marvel Comics
All New X-Factor #2
This series just kicked off a few weeks ago with Gambit, Polaris, and Quicksilver taking the reigns on the new X-Factor team.
“NOT BRAND X” Part 2 X-FACTOR IS BACK . . . LIKE NEVER BEFORE!
Serval Industries, one of the world’s most trusted names in electronics and leader in cutting-edge internet and weapons technology, has just unveiled their newest contribution to society . . . the All-New X-Factor. Led by mutant mistress of magnetism, Polaris, the team uses its corporate backing for the betterment of society. With her half-brother Quicksilver, notorious thief, Gambit, and more by her side, can Polaris trust that her corporate masters really have good intentions?”
All New X-Men #22
This is where the new story arc begins. Guardians of the Galaxy are coming and what does that mean for Jean Grey?
“The Trial of Jean Grey”
“The arrival of the original X-Men in the present sent shockwaves through the Marvel Universe, but we’ve only seen the effects on Earth. When alien races learn that Jean Grey, host of the destructive Phoenix Force, is back on earth, they do something about it. Now it’s up to the rest of the All-New X-Men and the Guardians of the Galaxy to save Jean Grey from twisted intergalactic justice! Don’t miss two of Marvel’s biggest franchises crossing over for the first time!”
Avengers #25
Looks like the Avengers are boasting a new team in this weeks issue. With a possible death in the issue, who knows where this could send the Avengers in their flagship title. Great starting point to jump in on the Avengers if you wanted to and didn’t know where to begin.
“‘THE MIRROR’ It worked for the X-Men! Would we be so crass as to do it again? Introducing the ALL-NEW AVENGERS! And we’ve been good up till now, but this issue, an Avenger dies.”
Origin II #2 (of 5)
Adam Kubert’s artwork shines through once again on this sequel to the best selling title Origin.
“Without his family, Logan struggles to continue on. Meanwhile, word of a clawed wild man in the woods has reached civilization and the hunt to capture him first begins! And enter CREED.”
That wraps up another great week in comics. Still lots of unmentioned titles of course but you’ll have to hit the local shop up and let us know what gems you found that wasn’t on our list. Be sure to come back next week as we explore more into the comic universe and look for those gems.
