The Marvel Roundup: News, Set Photos and More

New photos from the Age of Ultron set, Thanos has been cast and more!

Soon after Robert Downey Junior introduced himself to the world of Twitter (@RobertDowneyJr), he began to get requests from eager fans to see photos of him on the set of the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. A couple of days ago, he delivered this to fans:

On set: Robert Downey Junior with executive producer Jeremy Latcham.

But Downey Junior wasn’t the only one getting in on the fun of sharing things from the set; Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/The Hulk) began sharing photos as well on his Twitter, @MarkRuffalo. The photos were prefaced by a Tweet that read:

[blockquote]”Today was the first day of shooting “Age of Ultron” when all of the Avengers we reassembled! Awesome sight @Marvel”[/blockquote]

In other Marvel news, in speaking with Empire Magazine, Marvel Studios President and producer Kevin Feige opened up about the role of Thanos, which he’s now confirmed will be a physical representation of the character, and not just CGI:

[blockquote]”There is an actor. I’m not sure we want to announce it yet.”[/blockquote]

Speculative fans point to the fact that they are probably holding onto that secret for San Diego Comic Con which runs July 24th through 27th and where most big reveals about comic movies are made. Feige also confirmed the release date of Captain America 3 as being May 6, 2016, the same date as Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman; he was asked about how people saw the decision not to move the release date of the film as confidence in the franchise:

“Well, I’m glad people think that way. We had the flag there first. What other people do and where has always been less of our concern. It’s about keeping our head down and doing what we would believe would be cool for an audience to see. I wouldn’t say that necessarily.”

Finally, Feige was asked about the concept art tease of the Hulkbuster armor:

[blockquote]”That little tease was very intentional on our part,” he said. “… The specifics around it we don’t have to do for a while. It’s a piece of armour we’ve wanted to see on screen for a long time, let’s put it that way. What is the Hulkbuster suit built for?”[/blockquote]

Much of the interview with Feige raised more questions than answers (like who will be Thanos? Why did they decide on casting instead of CGI? and more…) but at least we are beginning to get more insight to what is developing and the things that they are working on. Who do you think will play Thanos, and what do you think about the Hulkbuster concept art? Leave your answers in the comment section below!

Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release on August 1st with Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.
