Justice League Film Officially Announced

Zack Snyder slated to direct.

In the exclusive from The Wall Street Journal, Warner Bros. president of worldwide production, Greg Silverman, has said that the studio has begun to plan for a Justice League film. Zack Snyder was also confirmed as the director of the upcoming film and that a script is currently being written. At this point in time no date has been given the film, but it is a good bet that we won’t be seeing the finished project to be out before 2018; about two years after the release of Batman vs. Superman.

[blockquote]“It will be a further expansion of this universe. Superman vs. Batman will lead into Justice League.” said Silverman of the upcoming DC films.[/blockquote]

Stars from Batman vs. Superman, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot are expected to make up the core of the Justice League, as well as the recent addition to the upcoming film, Ray Fisher who will play Cyborg. Further casting is already underway for the rest of the potential Justice League roster. While they haven’t announced who else will be a part of the Justice League, some fans are hoping to see Stephen Amell as Green Arrow and Grant Gustin as the Flash.

There was also mention of the possibility of a spin-off Wonder Woman project starring Gal Gadot. She has been signed with Warner Bros. for three movies so far, and they’ve stated that if in fact the spin-off does happen, it wouldn’t be until after the Justice League film. Likely they’re trying to feel out the audience reception to her character before proceeding with her own films. The studio is warm to the idea:

[blockquote]“That is our hope,” said Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing. “With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.”[/blockquote]

While DC Comics films have had ups and downs with the success of the Dark Knight trilogy and the flop of Green Lantern, they seem to be looking for a film that will be able to compete with Marvel films like The Avengers. Who do you think would be a great addition to the Justice League team and do you think the film will be enough to take on Marvel juggernauts?
