The H.M.S. Bad Idea is Now Boarding
April 25, 2014Toronto comic creator Peter Chiykowski has some bad ideas, but he needs your help.
If you’ve seen our Winter is Coming* tees, you may recognize the art as Peter’s and were created in a collaborative effort between Rock, Paper, Cynic and Geek Chic Elite. Now, Peter has taken to Kickstarter in order to bring a great idea to life: a book called The H.M.S. Bad Idea: An Anti-Self Help Comic Collection.
Anti-self help, you ask? Why yes!
Peter aims to create a 160-page anti-self help comic book that is full of hilariously bad ideas that are created both by him and by backers who pledge a certain dollar amount for the opportunity to have their bad idea illustrated in the book by either Peter or by other guest artists. Giving backers the opportunity to provide Peter with a bad idea is not only a great experiment in crowdsourcing, but gives everyone something personal that they can look for in the book.
Can’t think of a bad idea? Here’s some bad ideas to get those gears turning…
Does this all sound a little bit crazy to you?
Wait until you hear about the other rewards, like the opportunity to have people’s pets named after you. The hardcover edition of the book comes with a signed contract promising that if Peter ever travels forward in time, he will come back to let you know how you die. Nothing bad can happen from that, right?
Don’t want to mess with the fabric of time and space?
Choose the Collectors Edition and you’ll receive a blank piece of paper, an art pen and the contract saying that Peter will attempt to haunt you from beyond the grave by drawing comics.
There are also Kickstarter-only exclusives to be had, including buttons, postcards, and a hand-sculpted polymer clay turtle to name a few.
Peter has been making comics since 2008 and posting them on his website rockpapercynic.com for everyone to read. They’ve even been shared from time to time by geeky greats such as Nathan Fillion and George Takai. At conventions across Canada, Peter can be found representing Rock, Paper, Cynic in artist alley and even taking part in panels from time to time. You can find out more about the man behind the comics by checking out our Artist Feature on him!
So if you can, help a great artist out by sharing his Kickstarter! You can also find Rock Paper Cynic on both Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter, as well as select Canadian conventions that Peter announces on the Rock Paper Cynic Facebook page.
