Definitely yes, in today’s modern society video games became an essential part of everyday routine, they are one of the best means of spending free time, discovering new worlds and becoming a hero. These are only a few things that you can do in a magic world of Gothic, a role-playing game, which has already become a legend.
The game was originally developed by a German studio named Piranha Bytes. It was released on March 15, 2001 and totally changed the perception of the RPG abbreviation by thousands of gamers around the world. Gothic offered numerous innovative things that were absolutely new for a game industry of that time: a big and open world, AI with a decision-making system, the atmosphere, which kept you intrigued and interested for hours and hours. The world of Gothic also had its own history, which could be studied in special books that can be possibly compared to modern history books or articles like full pokies history in New Zealand. It happened so that the game became so successful that the second part of it, named Gothic 2, was released on the 29th of November, 2002. It had a bigger and more detailed world, more quests and possibilities, the storyline was reworked as well, which lead to
After the second part was released, it gained an official add-on named “The night of Raven”. It was the end of the old Gothic world, and the new era began.
The third part of the saga appeared in 2006, and the first impression this game left was terrifying: it was full of bugs, the engine was poorly optimized and the game was lagging even on brand new PCs. It took Piranha Bytes a year to fix the most significant bugs, but, anyway, it did not save the situation, especially, considering the masterpiece named The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, which was released almost at the same time with Gothic 3.
After the failure of the third part, all rights for the game were sold to Spellbound studios. The studio has released the last part of the series named The Tale of Gothic: Arcania. The game was totally different from what Gothic’s fans used to see: the world was changed a lot, a new main character appeared and the new graphic engine was used. Many fans said that Arcania was the final destination point for Gothic series and now it is finally dead. But not so long a new announcement appeared – Spellbound stated that a new part of this game might possibly appear and it will have all best features from the first two parts. The only thing we can do is hope and keep up with the upcoming information and then, maybe, we will see good old Gothic back!
