Go to University with The Walking DeadSeptember 5, 2013
Robert Kirkman’s zombie creation has taken a step in the academic direction.
The University of California in Irvine announced on Wednesday that they would be offering a massive open online course based on the hit TV series. “It’s the first time in history that a technology firm, production company, and major university have collaborated in this way.” says the UCI’s website.
It’s doubtful Rick or Merle will be teaching a course in one handed slipknots. In fact, the course will be taught by 4 professors from UCI with studies in social science, mathematics, physics and public health using the setting of a post apocalyptic world.
“Fans of the show know that The Walking Dead is about more than zombies; it’s about survival, leadership, and adapting to situations that are perilous and uncertain,” said Theresa Beyer, VP of promotions at AMC.
The universities hope is to teach students around the world using a topic that engages and excites them. They will look at nutrition, the spread of infectious disease, social order, as well as stress management in a world we no longer control.
“Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead” will run for 8 weeks starting October 14th. Enrollment is free and available to anyone in the world. You can visit www.canvas.net/TWD for more information or to enroll.
