The Gates of Misery Kickstarter Project
August 26, 2014Horror fans rejoice! Here is a project that is being done by true fans of the genre and are turning to everyone in the horror community to help fund this amazing project. Every dollar raised goes towards costs such as production, printing, shipping and distribution of the comic.
So what is The Gates of Misery?
It’s a horror anthology comic set in Mount Misery Cemetery. The comic features three separate tales of terror, each one describing and illustrating the characters journey to the grave and how their souls came to be trapped inside the Gates of Misery. You can find their official Kickstarter here.
Issue #1 features tales by filmmakers Brandon Cronenberg (writer/director of Antiviral), Steven Kostanski (writer/director of Manborg), and John Knautz (writer/director of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer). The illustration for each story is done by Matthew Therrien (Manborg: The Official Comic) and coloured by Shira Haberman (Manborg: The Official Comic).
They are looking to raise $3500 by October 1st in order to fund their project. Fans who donate anything from a minimum of $5 to $500 or more will receive some sort of reward for their support. Everything from a heartfelt thank you, signed comics, original prints and even a chance of having yourself immortalized in a panel of the comic.
Steve, Brandon and John are all extremely talented writers but with very different and unique approaches to storytelling. It is then up to Matthew to make sure their vision is complemented by his artwork.
Once the project is done, the biggest challenge will become distribution. As the main goal is to make this a monthly comic, they will by pushing and promoting it as much as possible.
While The Gates of Misery is a project of true passion, they really need the support of not just the horror community but comic book fans everywhere. Take a few minutes and check it out. It might be something that you want to get behind and see succeed.
