The First Muppets Trailer for ABC Has Been Released

Last week it was announced that The Muppets are returning to network television for the first time in almost eighteen years. We have now learned that the show will air in prime time on Tuesday nights for ABC this Fall and will be aimed primarily at adults but will be relatable to kids of all ages as well.

The show’s first official trailer was released today and reveals that it will be presented in a mockumentary format similar to the network’s other hit show, Modern Family. In the hilarious trailer, Gonzo remarks on the format’s typical cutting away to one-on-one interviews is “just a totally overused device to make easy jokes. You know, talking to the camera to about how you really feel and then cutting back to say something totally different. [cuts away] I love it! Great device!”

The program will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires.

The trailer also revealed some other interesting tidbits about the characters that will be added to franchise canon including that the band are happy (and now legal) users of marijuana and that Kermit and Miss Piggy have broken up once again since they were last seen in the 2014 film Muppets Most Wanted. This fact will apparently serve to create some comedic tension as the characters continue to produce some kind of a show that will serve as the backdrop to the much anticipated series.
