Don’t Hold Your Breath For Kick-Ass 3

Chloe Moretz “doubtful” of KA3.

When asked about Kick-Ass 3 this week at the Saturn Awards by Movies With Butter, Moretz was quoted “That’d be great. I doubt it, but I would love it.”

“The hard thing is if fans want a third movie, they’ve got to go buy the ticket to go see the movie,” Moretz said. “It was like the second most pirated movie of the year, so if you want a movie to be made into a second, a third, a fourth and a fifth, go buy a ticket. Don’t pirate it.”

Overall, Kick-Ass 2 grossed $60.8 million worldwide and only had a budget of $28 million.

But is this solely due to it being the second most pirated movie of the year or does it have something to do with the average score of 29% on Rottentomatoes.com by critics, and only a 60% by fans? I’m sure that the piracy did hurt box office numbers to an extent, but also the lackluster performances we got compared to the first movie may had been the first heap of dirt shoveled into the grave of Kick-Ass.

If studios start taking more time with the source material and focus on the quality of the movie itself, you will be seeing less people pirate the movie and want to actually go out and see it.

Also to add to that, I’m sure that $50 for a night out to the movies might be driving some people away… but that might just be me.
