Community Gets an Animated EpisodeMarch 22, 2014
Channeling G.I. Joe and coming to televisions April 3rd.
Fans of Community are still praising the sequel to it’s popular episode “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons” that appeared last night when Entertainment Weekly released three stills of the new animated episode that will be aired on April 3rd titled “G.I. Jeff”. The animated show will offer a tribute to the 80s G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero that many of us may still remember from our childhoods (I know I do!) The stills below show us Annie as “Tight Ship”, Britta as “Buzzkill”, Shirley as “Three Kids” and Jeff as “Wingman”.
Executive producer Chris McKenna told EW: “[G.I. Joe] was something from our childhood that was very important to us and we had fond memories of it, and we thought it would be a cool way to do another animated episode. Like all Community episodes, it takes on a certain style. This one has a very specific story reason for it. I don’t want to give too much away, but our characters find themselves on a Wizard of Oz-type journey through the world of G.I. Joe. … There’s a mystery that Jeff in particular has to get to the bottom of.”
McKenna doesn’t reveal too much about the episode, but went on to tell EW: “We do a typical G.I. Joe opening where G.I. Joe is battling Cobra, then something very un-G.I. Joe and something very Community happens, and it becomes this inciting incident that gets our characters in hot water in the G.I. Joe realm.”
