Benedict Cumberbatch to be Cast as Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange
October 27, 2014We welcome the newest big name to the Marvel Film Universe. After talks broke down with Joaquin Pheonix to play the Marvel hero Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange, Hollywood has announced that now Benedict Cumberbatch is in final talks to helm the role. For months now there has been rumor after rumor of who would play the lead in the new Doctor Strange movie. There has been talks of Joaquin Phoenix, Tom Hardy, and Cumberbatch to play the lead, but no one could say for sure who it would be. But now with this being released that the Cumberbatch will play the role, a lot of fears of an actor not being able to fill the shoes of the hero can be put to rest. For those not familiar with Doctor Strange (if you aren’t that’s ok, we don’t judge), Doctor Strange is a former neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. The character was created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and debuted in the silver age of comics. Currently the film is set to release in 2016 and will be directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day the Earth Stood Still).
