Beetlejuice 2November 20, 2013
Will everyone’s favorite freelance bio-exorcist make his return to the big screen?
Back in March of this year, we heard that writer Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) had said he had begun work on writing a script for a sequel to the 1988 classic comedy, Beetlejuce. Grahame-Smith worked with Beetlejuice director Tim Burton on Dark Shadows and on the adaptation of Grahame-Smith’s novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and may seem to join forces once again for the Beetlejuice sequel.
Talks then was that Seth Grahame-Smith had spoken to Michael Keaton about putting back on the striped suit in a sequel but now we hear talk from Winona Ryder about the possibility of her return as her character, Lydia Deetz. Winona Ryder had this to say in a recent interview;
“I’m kind of sworn to secrecy. But it sounds like it might be happening…”It’s not a remake. It’s 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.”
Ryder also commented that she would only be interested in returning if Tim Burton and Michael Keaton were involved. Personally, I agree with her. Beetlejuice would not be the same without Burton’s style and Keaton back as the ghost with the most. In my opinion, if they didn’t sign on for a sequel, then no sequel should be made.
But for now everything is just hear say and rumor to whether or not Beetlejuice 2 will ever see the light of day. But as a huge Beetlejuice fan, I personally hope it does, because I will be first in line to dance the calypso once again.
“Let’s turn on the juice and see what shakes loose!”
