Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Midseason Finale Hints at Skye’s Comic Book CounterpartDecember 10, 2014
Last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. midseason finale was an epic and action-packed whirlwind. But while we were engrossed in the intense battles and long-awaited answers about the Obelisk, we also got some pretty important name drops. [SPOILERS AHEAD]
In this episode, we saw Skye reunited with her father, who introduced himself as Cal. Earlier this season, we heard him say that Skye isn’t his daughter’s name, and last night we learned her real one: Daisy. Well alright, now things are getting interesting.
Those familiar with the comics are speculating that Skye is actually Daisy Johnson, aka “Quake”, an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a mutant with seismic abilities. Given up for adoption when she was still a baby, Quake also happens to be the illegitimate daughter of Calvin Zabo, otherwise known as Mister Hyde – a brilliant medical researcher who develops a formula that turns him into a Hulk-like creature.
While Skye has yet to demonstrate any special powers, this week’s episode saw her going through a change meant to awaken latent abilities inherited from her mother. And though he has yet to turn into a giant beast, her father is still “a monster” with some intense anger management issues.
Corresponding names could just be a coincidence, but when it comes to Marvel, we rarely have those. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait until the show returns in March to find out.
