EA Announces Battlefield Hardline
May 29, 2014EA Games will be officially unveiling the newest entry into the Battlefield series, Battlefield Hardline, on June 9th for the E3 2014 press conference.
A seven minute video leaked of Battlefield Hardline as well, showing off gameplay footage and gave up new details on both the single player and multiplayer modes. Gameplay looks fantastic and looks to be taking the series into a new and exciting direction. The original leaked video can be viewed here via Polygon.
This video refers to the game under a codename of Omaha rather than Battlefield Hardline, which is the title that EA and Visceral Games officially confirmed.
Steve Papoutsis, VP of Visceral Games had this to say about the new title;
[blockquote]”The game launches this fall and it’s a brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, set against the backdrop of a genre we all love – the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminials.”[/blockquote]
Battlefield Hardline is going to be changing the game from the previous war time soldiers trope that has been a well trodden road for the last eight years of first person shooter, and will be about battles between cops and robbers, drug dealers and drug enforcement. The multiplayer modes detailed in the trailer showed Heist mode featuring robbers breaking into a bank to secure loot and staging a getaway. Rescue mode has SWAT teams work to save hostages, in a mode that really echoes a lot of the famous Counter-Strike. Hotwire is all about vehicle classes and a high intensity chase mode. Bloodmoney forces two forces fighting to secure money and return it to your hideout.
The single player focuses on Miami detective Nick Mendoza and features a mini-drama similar in tone to a lot of police movies, where the main characters partner betrays him and he is forced into a chase across the country for revenge.
Battlefield Hardline will be released later this year, and likely will feature heavily in EA’s E3 presentation.
