Legend of Korra “Korra Alone” Recap

Korra is struggling with who she is supposed to be, and where to go from here. (Spoilers inside) The season premiere of Legend of Korra was lacking something very important, Korra. We only got to see her for a little bit at the end giving a glimpse of what she has been up to over the past 3 years. The première focused on what the rest of Team Avatar had been up to over the years. This episode made it up to the fans who felt that the last episode was lacking, giving us much more Korra. This season Korra is struggling with not only being the avatar, but PTSD from the intense fight between herself and Zaheer. She was left scarred by the poisoning that was inflicted, and it left her confined to a wheelchair physically, and her mind in a state of shock. Luckily with the help of Katara, she was able to at least beat the physical ailments, but the mental damage was something that was not able to be cured so easily. vlcsnap-2014-10-12-15h21m22s185 The question of where Korra has been is answered during this episode as well, Korra fakes going to Republic City and goes on a soul searching mission. Korra sheds her avatar persona after a failed attempt at breaking up a robbery, and takes on the guise of an Earth Republic citizen. As Korra travels as this unknown citizen, she is constantly haunted by avatar of her image as she was in the fight with Zaheer. After an underground earth bending fight Korra chases down the ghost with the help of a spirit, and the fight leads them out of a town and into a familiar swamp. Korra attempts to confront the spectre but is unable to defeat it in her current state. During the ordeal she is knocked unconscious, and dragged beneath the swamp. korra-alone As Korra opens her eyes, she is greeted by the voice of a stranger. Well.. only to Korra, the stranger knows her quite well. Fans of the series get a giant gift right at the end of the episode as it is revealed as Toph Beifong. This episode was far better than the opener from last week. We not only get the truth of what Korra has been up to, but we also get to see an old friend hit the stage. Korra’s struggle with her inner demons will get only more intense with whatever Toph has in store for Korra’s recovery. korra-book-four-toph There was also a mention by the spirits that they could not sense her connection to Raava, and it was one of the reasons why the spirits did not recognise the Avatar. This could be a side effect of the disconnection from the previous avatar line, or not just Korra’s mind was damaged, but her very soul itself. Next week should be a very interesting and hopefully humorous episode considering Toph has already begun to call Korra “twinkletoes”. The next episode will be available next friday on Nickelodeons website.
