June 7, 2015This past weekend at Niagara Falls Comic Con, our website celebrated its two and a half year anniversary. It is kind of odd to have a half year anniversary, but after our first anniversary which falls on January in the middle of Canadian winter, we figured it would be better for everyone if we waited a little while.
Every time we throw an event, we love to reach out and help different charities. Our first year, we sponsored Community Care, a charity local to the headquarters of The GCE that helps 1800 families in need a month with food and clothing donations. For our two and a half year anniversary, we decided to help a local no-kill shelter: the Niagara Falls Humane Society. Often stretched far beyond their means, the NFHS crew work tirelessly to assist animals in need that have been neglected, abused or abandoned.
On Friday June 5 we held our charitable raffle at Taps Brewery in Niagara Falls and were able to raise almost $300 for the shelter. Site representatives headed to their local supermarket and petstore to purchase 8 liters of bleach, 12 liters of laundry soap, 100 pounds of cat and kitten food, 80 pounds of litter and 80 pounds of dog food, as well as cat and dog treats that they were sure the animals were going to enjoy.
Many of our lovely prizes came from the community, including comic books, gift certificates, tee shirts and more, but we wanted to give a well deserved shout out to those who dug deep and gave us some of the most popular items of the raffle.
